Bruce Levine just said he's been told the Cubs plan on Bryant starting in center if they don't keep Fowler or sign someone else.

My initial reaction is to dislike that plan an awful lot.

I'm not sure if I've got an issue with that or not. I lean "yes" though, because I just can't see an OF defense of Schwarber/KB/Soler being anything more than bad, just ahead of pitiful.

Still, I guess that'd clear 3B for Javy and leave Starlin at 2B, which I'd have no issue with. It'd also give us plenty of money to spend on pitching, even if also takes away potential trade chips in Javy and Starlin.

There are some things I like an awful lot about putting Bryant in CF. I'm not sure it's so beneficial that it's worth the downside though. If our current corner outfielders(or even 1 of them) were plus defenders I might feel differently.

An outfield of Schwarber-Bryant-Soler/Coghlan would be hilariously bad defensively

Wonder what the chance is they keep Jackson around

Well, sure. If they don't acquire anyone else and have to use somebody on the current roster that makes the most sense. But I think the chances are they acquire somebody.

I assume we've found a way to clone Arrieta so he'll start every game and the OFers will only need to jog to the occasional fly ball and groundball that happens to find a hole.

Well, sure, we can start our Rookie of the Year out in the outfield, where he has hardly played, and then bring him into the infield and watch him make a couple of nice plays with the leather. No big deal.

I'm convinced that Maddon has these guys believing they could run through a [expletive] brick wall if need be. He's been a masterful tactician.
