Of course he's lying, but classic Deadspin to throw out baseless nonsense about boosting attendance when every single big Cubs prospect to debut under Theo has done so on the road. Of course, that would require researching something.

I posted this in the comments section of the Deadspin article:

This continued harping on Theo is dumb and smacks of bias on your part.

Theo didn’t establish the service time and free agent system - the owners and union bargained over and agreed to it. Theo is paid to act in the best interests of the organization. The union has openly threatened to initiate litigation because Bryant spent two weeks in Iowa, which was due to the fact that it agreed to measure service time in a stupidly complex manner, not because Theo, Jed, or anyone else associated withe Cubs did anything “wrong”.

Is this obsession with the Cubs’ pronouncements about Bryant due to the fact that you guys are organizing and have now become union apologists? I ask because if you want to blame someone for Bryant’s “situation” (getting paid millions to ride a bus for 14 days and having to spend an extra year with a team and city that already worships him) it makes far more sense to the point the finger at a union that didn’t have foresight enough to see how what it was agreeing to could backfire on the players.

It's not gonna make a difference. Deadspin is sports outrage porn, so by design you aren't going to be happy when they talk about your team. There's plenty of internet readers looking for things to be outraged/indignant about, so this is good business for Deadspin.

eh, it's just pointing out that theo sounds ridiculous, it's not really bashing the cubs. all the articles i've seen on deadspin on bryant have specifically pointed out how keeping bryant in iowa for 2 weeks is the smart move.

Is there anyway to watch his premiere from Texas?

just google about streaming mlb games, i'm sure something will come up easily

MLB.com says we can get authentic Bryant merchandise now!

I lost an arm just staring at their prices. $28 for a jersey shirt? Damn I'm old and cheap now.

It is a specific type of sports outrage porn though. they used to take shots at everybody in the sports world but have since shifted to a very narrow focus on criticizing the suits in the game and only going after athletes who commit violent crime. It has become more jock sniffy in recent years.

Don't know if this belongs here or in the game thread, but as of Wednesday night MLB EI was not going to carry the Cubs broadcast today (presumably because it is on a local OTA station). The Cubs feed is on MLB EI now, though. So, it looks like Bryant's dongs are having far-reaching effects already.

Where are you getting that information from?

If they were not going to air the Cubs feed then it was because they are not allowed to air it. They wouldn't be able to just decide to show it now.

Yes, its become more preachy then sort of evenhandedly observant.

Not sure what you mean by preachy.

some people criticize it for its progressive tendencies, but that is not what I am talking about.

Indignant about most of the stuff they cover. They used to have more of a sense of humor.

I looked at the MLB EI schedule and the guide on my TV Wednesday. Both showed the Padres feed only. This afternoon the guide showed the Cubs feed, and now I'm watching it. Either the guide and schedule were wrong all along, or someone made a change.

Those advanced schedules are not always up accurately, but I set mine to record last night and it was on there.

It could have just been wrong when I looked at it, but when MLB EI doesn't carry a particular team's feed it is usually because it is on a local OTA station and there's no satellite feed to pick up. When I saw the "change" I assumed that ESPN and MLB had gotten a satellite feed set up so that they could carry Bryant's ABs live, and MLB EI just went ahead and picked up the feed because why not.
