They aren't going to get good or decent offense from the catcher position unless they platoon Montero.

well, yeah, i mean, that's kind of been the basic idea and general understanding, ever since the moment he was acquired

I was just responding to what Bittner wrote.

I'm pretty sure it will be. They've had Montero catching Lester at times this spring, right? Plus, at least from the limited amount I've watch Montero this spring, the pitch framing talk may be legitimate.

Yeah, they've had them work together so hopefully that goes well and Lester doesn't feel inclined to demand Ross. He definitely has been open about it (not needing a personal catcher) in the press so far.

Cue the "Whiz Kids" or "Young Guns" or something like that moniker from the press.

I like it. But - is it fair to include Hendricks too? He could the the Arkansas Dave Rudabagh character.

Awesome.

But you forgot Castro.

Someone had to be left out and I chose him :-(

Castro is awesome and Baez is sorrow molded into human form; the choice wasn't even a choice.

Darlin Starlin will be entering his sixth season this year. Not sure if he still qualifies as a young gun

on second thought, that thing's all kinds of fucked. just start from scatch and chop them onto this one.

I feel like Castro is a pretty traditional #2 hitter (besides his relatively low OBP), but I'm not sure if a "traditional #2 hitter" is any more valuable than a "traditional leadoff hitter". It seems like there is a growing consensus that it's more important to stack your best hitters at the top so they get more at bats, rather than putting certain "types" of hitters in certain slots. I haven't paid much attention in the past to what Maddon does with his lineups, aside from the fact that he's one of the guys that is known to bat pitchers 8th.

This is probably what I would do:

1. Fowler CF

2. Soler RF

3. Rizzo 1B

4. Bryant LF

5. Castro SS

6. Russell 3B

7. Baez 2B

8. Montero C
