I know we've had these in the past and it hasn't mattered the past few years for the most part, but I thought it would be nice to have given that tickets might actually be something worth discussing this year. Reminder: this isn't the right forum to be selling/buying. If you have tickets to give away for free, I think the mods would be OK with that.

I'll start: Got some Opening Day tickets through the pre-sale this morning. We have season tickets, but people share them and we wanted to sit together, so we got 4 tickets in infield UD Box (vs. 2 infield UD Reserved where our tickets usually are). Praying for temps at least in the 40s for the most anticipated Cubs game since at least 2010, but likely 2009.

What presale? Your STH presale? Ours isn't until tomorrow. Tickets go on sale to the public Friday right? It's weird I haven't heard anything about it and didnt see anything on the Cubs website last time I checked.

There was an exclusive season ticket holder presale from 8a-10a. And from 10a today-10p Wednesday there is a pre-sale for basically everyone. If you use a MasterCard, it is a 15% premium on the price and if you don't have a MasterCard, it is a 20% premium on the price.

Tickets go on sale to everyone on Friday as you mentioned.

Apparently Opening Day sold out in less than 5 minutes. Not sure if they set aside a certain number of tickets for the presale or if all seats were available.

I see. I think the Cubs only have my old school email which has now been deactivated. I hate the MC premium. Prettt sure the only game that would be worth it for is Opening Day.

As of now, yeah. While expectations are high, if they start out 10-20 or something, demand will be the same as the past few years. If you are really into Cubs-Sox still for some reason and want to guarantee yourself tickets, you could do it as the MC/Pre-Sale premium would be about the same as StubHub prices, but no other game will be worth 15-20% more than face right away without some carrying costs involved due to the dynamic pricing tiers the Cubs already use for summer weekends and whatnot.

I pulled up opening day tickets for the 12 game package. Might have to pull the trigger as I plan on going to 10-15 games this year anyway.

The low capacity has done a lot to affect demand. When they are good everybody thinks tickets are hard to get. They've done a lot to drum up interest this offseason and now they are doing even more to cause the buying panic.

Pre-sale "sellouts", no bleacher seats available.

That Crane Kenney is a genius.

I'm probably only gonna make it to one game this summer, so I'm waiting till midseason...till the renovation is done, Bryant is up, and Baez is all fixed.

the renovation not being done only makes the secondary market better!

Anyone who is willing to give me some advice and not judge me plz halp

i can't decide if i should just try to sell now on stubhub and eat the fees (to mitigate risk) or if I should try to allow demand to build up in season and sell them on craigslist closer to game days sans-fees.

and just so you guys realize i'm not that much of a big stupid jerk, i'm always willing to sell from my season ticket pool to nsbbers for around face (if it's some crazy in demand game i'm usually game for the low end of what games in my section go for on stubhub). i just wanted to double up on some games for a little extra change.

While I don't disagree with what you're doing, it's a little weird to be publicizing it. You're probably going to get a lot of hate.

That said, sell early. Ticket prices plummet the closer it gets to the game. Unless it's a playoff game or some huge game that everyone wants to go to. Opening day might fall into this category, but probably not even that game. And if it does, it's the only one. I haven't used Craigslist to buy or sell in quite awhile, but if you can sift through all the [expletive] it's not a bad resource to avoid fees. Stubhub is easy to use. Buyer pays 20% fees and seller pays 10% fees of listing price. While that can be significant, it's often worth it for the convenience.

I agree with this. I've been burned in the past holding onto tickets thinking the demand would go up. In 2007 I snagged 4 tickets to game 3 of the World Series intending to sell them. The day after I bought them someone offered me $4000 for them (they collectively cost me $1000 total). I declined thinking the demand would go up before the game. The day before the game I couldn't even field an offer for $3000. I started looking into flights to Denver to go to the game but instead caved and sold them for $2500. Sell now

I agree with you guys generally, but I have a couple of games that I feel like the hype could help a lot...especially with Cubs/Sox. Obviously, that could go either way, but if both teams are even hovering around .500, I wonder how the value of the tickets would compare from, say, 2-3 weeks out to right now, so that's kinda what I'm wrestling with.

The early season games I'm going to sell ASAP.

And, yeah, I realize it's weird, but I know we've had posters (like you guys) do it in the past and figured getting the advice was worth it.

I can't believe after all these years the Cubs still use this virtual waiting room system. It's like the exact same process as it was in 2004.

Do you have 100 tabs open?

I did...got through on like 20 of them right away...searched for 1 ticket best available on opening night and there was nothing. Oh well, I'm gonna head down there and try to buy tickets at a reasonable price, and if not will go to the bar.
