Basketball recruiting is worse. Fewer players mean more at stake, plus these kids are being pursued as early as middle school,

What do you mean by worse? It's much more rare for basketball players to flip schools after committing (though this has started to change). I'm not saying basketball recruiting is pretty.

Worse in terms of the hand-wringing and over-analysis and how quickly landing/not landing key recruits can turn a program.

Well that just makes sense when you have 5 positions and 13 scholarships instead of 22 and 85. Each recruit is more important. The thing I hate about football recruiting (which I don't follow) is that guys 'commit' but rarely actually commit. They accept a scholarship as a place holder and keep shopping until they get a better offer and/or signing day arrives.

Rece Davis taking over for Fowler on Gameday. He's fine, but everyone is losing in all of this. Fowler << Musberger in PBP and Fowler>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> anyone else ever in pre-game/Gameday stuff.

Fowler noticeably improved (IMO) over the course of the season doing play by play and was pretty darn good in the title game. He's no Musburger but he's quite good.

Rece Davis has been presiding over ESPN's Holtz and May pony show the last decade, dealing with Corso is going to be a freaking picnic by comparison.

I graduated from Indiana State and that happens all the time to mid majors. Recent example is Bryant McIntosh who was committed to ISU but then went to Northwestern when the Big Ten came calling. It is almost like mid majors have to hope that their commits don't have a great senior season.

Fair on Fowler as a PBP person. And Davis will be fine as host, but Fowler is the GOAT at hosting a show like that, so anyone would have been a step down.

Eh, it's still not as bad as football. Purdue lost a basketball commit to Kentucky a couple years ago but I would guess half of Purdue's football roster was committed to a MAC school at one point or another (no wonder we're good).

@TonyPaul1984:

"Unconfirmed rumblings that an Ohio State BEAT WRITER knew the RB coach was leaving, but held off on reporting it so not to lose Mike Weber."

Cass Tech coach speaks out about OSU duplicity:

"I think Urban Meyer will have to step his game up; we're going to have to talk," Cass Tech football coach Thomas Wilcher told Detroit Sports 105.1 on Friday. "He has come to my school and got the No. 1 athlete two years in a row.

"You cannot come over here, come up to the north and walk out of here with your pockets full and not give us respect.

"That's not gonna happen again, I can tell you that right now."

Louisville

The Louisville football team's decision this week to give longtime commitment Matt Colburn only a delayed-enrollment "grayshirt" offer instead of letting him sign on Wednesday, apparently did not sit well with his high school coach.

Dutch Fork High School coach Tom Knotts told GoUpState.com that Bobby Petrino's Cardinals will not be welcome to recruit players at his school in the future.

good for him, hopefully more schools follow suit

If we let Lampkin out of his LOI I would not complain. I knew nothing on Rumph potentially leaving and as of last night I thought he was going to stay. Of course if we can get Brick Haley I don't think any of the recruits will complain.

Did Musberger retire or just get too creepy?

he's doing SEC network, isn't he?

Gross

Fowler basically leveraged his way into Brent's job with his last contract and ESPN exiled him to the SECN.

Not much of a college sports fan, but I was pretty stunned to see on Deadspin that Fowler signed a $35 million contract. I had no idea those guys make that much.

Good thing the players get paid too.

To be fair the coaches are doing this to the players too.

Illinois and Northwestern schedule 3 games at Soldier Field. 2015, 2017, 2019

The Nov. 28, 2015, game was originally scheduled for Memorial Stadium in Champaign.

"By taking these Thanksgiving weekend games to Soldier Field, we will provide a great environment for our student-athletes, fans and students who are already in the Chicagoland area for the holiday," Illinois athletic director Mike Thomas said in a statement.

It's a great way to get all the media to get behind these schools and promote the state like they should. Shouldn't Illinois be the best state?
