Week 8: Bears (3-4) @ Patriots (5-2) Noon Fox/780

I would of liked to have heard some stern words and some accountability for the players.

Like what?

Emerys [expletive] 'stats' about Jay Cutler winning, his thoughts on Shea staying as a starting LB, Allen showing speed and an ability to bend the edge etc. Even the crap about the Solider Field sod was dumb.

But it's what you're going to hear from basically any team in this situation barring the person speaking is a complete meatball having a meltdown. You're longing for something that just doesn't happen.

You're right, I figured as much. The tone seemed more defensive then really admitting there being issues. It was unsatisfying.

I dunno, there was plenty that I heard that made it sound like they weren't happy and things had to change. There's only so much they can say in that situation without coming across like goons. Calling out players or trying to sound like the principal making people stay after school just really doesn't accomplish anything. They know the team is struggling and the season is looking terrible.

There is a bit of talent to work with, even on defense. Injuries have played a definite toll on the secondary IMO. Some of the DB guys out there Sunday have no business as main contributors. A stud DE would go a long way though to helping out coverage.

Browsing the roster last week I was really surprised at the number of UDFA on this roster. I think there were about 8 total. And that's with every drafted player from the past two years still on the roster. Obviously Emery's first draft has contributed, but that was a light draft in picks anyways.

Hopefully we can let guys like Washington and Jones get lots of snaps to see what we really have amongst our relatively untested defenders.

I would like Emery to stand up and say that in his initial presser in 2012 when he said he was here to "win championships" over and over, his expectations were unreasonable. That improving a franchise is very difficult work and he has not been able to do it. I want him to say that he fired a pretty good coach and hired a pretty bad coach when there was a couple pretty good coaches willing to take the job. I'd like him to say that while he is trying his best, each year he's been here they have gotten worse and winning championships has become less and less likely and that he almost certainly will never be the gm of a playoff team. Or he could talk about his bad drafting or his bad free agency signings.

Yeah, the amount of UDFA is due to crappy drafting. Nobody wants street free agents to be primary contributors on a team that was built to win NOW. In his defense, Christian Jones was a 3rd round talent. Emery went all in this offseason with the signing of veterans to complete now. That is the biggest disappointment, is knowing we need a slight rebuild. Obviously a home run draft would be great though unlikely, but I would guess 2-3 years of solid drafting is in the mix.

On defense, if you asked who our best player is I would say with full confidence it's Fuller. That's a problem.

So, you want him to do what no GM in professional sports has ever done and throw his coaches, players and self under the bus for your amusement? Good luck with that.
