Not to completely eat every word NoCode is selling, but his timeline seems spot on. It's now just getting to major media that it's decision time. Would make sense that his family would know first. He beat Cafardo here, so it wasn't reactionary.

 

It could also just be an educated guess that it would happen tonight. But he's not losing any ground.

I hadn't thought about going with 3 catchers, but I can see a perspective where that makes sense. Having Ross means you can liberally pinch hit and play matchups in-game with Castillo and Montero. Castillo can spell Rizzo for a few games at 1B. The positional flexibility of everyone else on the roster(Valbuena, Baez, Alcantara, & Bryant specifically) means that even with 3 catchers you don't lack for backup options anywhere on the roster. Not my favorite way of roster construction, but it could be workable.

May make sense. Marlin Bystro (are ya'll familiar with him?) had posted that we wanted Lester+Shields. So I could see us making a play for them.

 

That said, I don't think Philadelphia is going to be in "rational" mode once Lester signs. If anything, they should continue to hold out, because no matter the answer to the question of "where will Lester go?", teams are going to want Hamels. Bad.
