the assertion that a sub isn't a sandwich is one of the most insane ideas ever proposed on NSBB, and that's saying a lot

This is Mojo's doesn't tip on a haircut.

It's on the sandwich "tree," or however you want to put it, but it's different enough in terms of expectations and construction to be it's own thing, just like a hot dog.

Yes, I have said that several times. They're very similar, but different enough in key ways to be their own thing. You can't just swap out similar foods and expect people to act like they're the same thing, so they're not.

Is that like the ticket oak? And where can I get one? That sounds really convenient and pretty awesome.

You continue to make no sense. If it's on the tree along with all these others types of sandwiches it is by definition a sandwich that just happens to go by a specific name.

So then the issue is with classic/traditional/whatever sandwiches being called "sandwiches" when they're just part of the sandwich category. It's like people in the south calling all sodas "coke" in addition to Coke actually being its own thing.

I say we make history and rename sandwiches.

Ah, yes, the difference between a Sandwich and a sandwich. As a friend of mine observed that the problem stems from sandwich being both a genus and a species (his words)

I don't do sandwiches any longer, no carb diet; man do I miss bread, but not buns.

A proper burrito is wrapped end over end and covered in a mole or other sauce and eaten with silverware.

As someone who just spent the last 3 months mostly in California, you are wrong. There is a distinct difference between Mexican and Tex Mex. You are describing Tex Mex which is bastardized American influenced Mexican food.

I've also had a taco with beans in it. It's not difficult, nor did it make it a burrito.

Taco = one base, folded into two sides with an open air top

Burrito = one base, folded over and wrapped up to an enclosed concoction.

This isn't rocket science.

Well burritos are basically unique to northern Mexicans and not Mexico as a whole so that Tex-Mex burrito is just authentically Mexican as whatever California has by and large, but those cultures are still going to be somewhat unique due to being separated. If we're trying to stick with a strictly historically Mexican dish though you're topping out on like two ingredients either way one of which may not be meat. I guess if proper is meant as historical, no that's not proper as the historical burrito was solely meant to be easily wrapped, but there is a just as authentic culture of plated burritos with mole, which I include to dustinguish it from tacos. Otherwise they are just basically large tacos with a different wrap technique.

So through two pages, Mojo doesn't think that buns are bread, and NY doesn't think that peanut butter and jelly is a sandwich.

This thread is like an autism litmus test

No, it isn't.

But now it is.

IDEA: Next time I go to the store, I buy hot dogs. I offer one to my son and ask him "What is it?"

He doesn't know the word for hot dog, but this can all be decided by whether he says "sandwich" or just "eat."
