Can you imagine the size of the meatball outcry if the Bears started un-retiring numbers?

Oh it'd be crazy and wouldn't happen ever, but maybe they could at least do some trades to please the meatballs. Like hey we'll retire Singletary's number guys but we're taking back Hewitt, Galimore, and McAfee because seriously.

I'm still confused on Ditka but I guess they figured no one wears numbers in the 80s anymore except TEs and waiver-wire WRs so sure why not.

The thing about numbers of true legends and faces of the game like Payton, Butkus, etc. is that nobody wants to wear those numbers unless it's a tribute to that person. Hell, in highschool after our star players graduated, none of the underclassmen would take their numbers. I don't think there would be very many players who would come to Chicago and want to wear 34 for the Bears or 23 for the Bulls.

But yeah, players who most of these kids have never heard of like Gallimore etc should not be retired. I know it's hard to judge if the person will be an icon or not when they actually retire, but most of the time you just know. Urlacher was really good, maybe HoF worthy, but nobody 20 years from now is going to think #54 Bears is a sacred jersey.

Nobody will remember you or me either. That's why they invented gravestones.

Retired jerseys are like gravestones.

McClellin underwent surgery on his right hand earlier this week, according to a source, and the expectation is that he will be back in action soon. The Bears already ruled McClellin out for Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field and it will be the second game he has missed since being injured in practice on Sept. 18.

If all goes well, McClellin will miss just one or two more games before being back in the mix next month.

I think hey they handled Singletary's number was good and how they should handle Urlacher. Unofficially retire it for about 20 seasons and then just let some veteran use it again and move on.

Also lets unretire about half the numbers.

Yeah, there should be no retired numbers, but I will take half as a start.

To me, a good compromise is to show the jersey with the name and number of the player over the stadium or something, but keep it in circulation for people to wear it. That way it honors the former players, keeps the names of the franchise greats in people's minds, but let's the current guys wear whatever they want.

No reason why the Bulls couldn't have 2 all-time great #23 players, for instance, but also no reason why both shouldn't be commemorated in some way very publicly.

While we're at it get rid of the stupid number rules. Let a WR wear single digits if he wants. Nothing better than seeing a 340lb DL wearing #1 (looking at you Louis Nix).

I can't believe the all-orange and orange pants suggestions didn't get more furious scorn. That's some grotesque, college-looking horror.

When the hell did we wear these? Ghastly.

maybe it is just me, but I really don't care what uniforms they wear as long as they win.

I used to memorize the roster every season and I can't name one of those guys.
