Yes, that is hyperbolic. 8 dudes everybody else would be excited about as middle of the order hitters? No.

I'd rather day watch winning baseball than daydream about prospects who will not come close to living up to some of the absurd expectations people have for them.

There is not a team in baseball who would have any one of Rizzo, Soler, Bryant, Baez, Russell, or Schwarber right now and not project them as one of their future middle of the order guys. I admitted that Castro and Alcantara aren't those types of bats but are still productive everyday players given some combination of positional value and stuff like defense and baserunning.

How can you possibly dispute this? Have you seen what offenses look like now?

Yes, some aren't going to be all that good. Some are going to be OK. Some will probably reach every bit of their ceilings. That's why we have a lot of them and we have them at every position (yes, debatable when it comes to Schwarber).

Would they have them in their system? Sure. Of [expletive] course. What kind of statement is that? It's meaningless.

Have them in their system?

They'd project them as middle of the order bats. We have a bunch of guys who if another team had them, they'd say, "that guy is going to hit in the middle of the order for us for years"

and we have like 6 of those types of bats. and they all are capable of playing different positions (and therefore at the same time)

teams don't even have power hitters anymore

what the [expletive] is so hard to grasp about what i'm saying goony?

im gonna enjoy that as much as the actual wins

As much as you've enjoyed the last 3 years? I know what a crazy opinion it is to say that losing is bad.

the last 3 years have [expletive] sucked. no disputing that. i hate having to convince myself to watch games or go to games.

Good teams don't stupidly pencil in prospects for the middle of their order for years to come.

oh for [expletive]'s sake

do you

i haven't enjoyed the last three years, i've just done other stuff while waiting for it to pay off. voila, i wasn't even a miserable [expletive] head the entire time

No one has our young talent base and injuries are accounted inside that. One horrible year full of injuries and one year we may have some or just may not play well enough to get it done. And this is not taking into account that we could make the playoffs next year.

Not to mention that if you look at the East or West, no one is scary moving forward. It wouldn't shock me if both WC's come from our division fairly often over this period of time.

This seems irrationally optimistic. If not for injuries you're EXPECTING us to go to the playoffs 9 out of 10 seasons?

It's either that or admit that being terrible for three years sucks and isn't awesome.

50 years from now......

Here lies Kyle, who's long life was still cut 5 years short because the Chicago Cubs only averaged 63 wins between 2012-2014 and not 73.

In order to average 73 during those years they would need 92 wins this year, that would have been awesome.

That's actually a pretty good way to look at since this year was the first year they REALLY left assets on the table. Granted they did shift some resources away from the MLB club to MiLB the first two years but they were generally doing the dual front thing, misses and all.

Seeing how we are doing now, 92 wins wouldn't have been totally out if the question if our Tanaka money went somewhere (preferably a bat) and gave us production. Or at least a wild card chase. We then wouldn't have Russell, McKinney, and Top5 2015 pick, but still have a nice looking future.

So if we end up with 4 or 5 out of 10 instead of 5 or 6, I'd definitely be looking at 2014 as the big wasted year because we put all our eggs in the Tanaka basket and failed.

Admit that you've been similarly intoxicated lately

I'm this close to recanting and declaring the rebuild to be the best idea ever.

It's in the NSBB Constitution that nothing said in the game thread counts.

You're going to hate how I'll have no problem simultaneously glorying in our awesome team and dumping on the front office.

Len "cubs 3b kris Bryant leads baseball with 47 home runs, ahead of four other cubs who each have 39"

JD: "Len I have to remind you that while that is cool , we lost a lot of games in 2013"

Len: "interesting, I'll have to fact check that because it's so cool now that I literally don't care."

JD: "ok just for the record the cubs were not good years ago."

[expletive], in all honesty.....If we didn't have Kyle, Goony, SSR, and some others, this place wouldn't have had anything to talk about over these shitty seasons. And as unfortunate as this may sound, I don't know a single real life Cub fan who cares for this [expletive] as much as the guys here. When we win, Im happy for all of us idiots who spend countless hours babbling on and on about THE PLAN, no matter what side anyone's been on.

You're looking at this all wrong.

We get to be just as excited when they win *or* smug if they lose. It's no-lose.

To recap: imb just shrugged off the past 3 seasons because who cares things will be awesome. What he did not shrug off was message board posters not being thrilled with the last 3 years.
