i don't think we'll be getting a senior season from Devin Funchess

Freaking monster

If he can get over his drops, he's a top 15 pick. But that's been a big problem for him.

At what position? I guess I'd call him a WR. Moved there from TE last year, but he's not going to be a guy that ever really lines up on the line anyway.

Yeah, he's certainly not specifically a TE or a WR these days but the precedent has been set in the NFL for guys like him to work (see Jimmy Graham).

ETA: Not saying he's as good as Graham.

Gurley is so good.

It'll be interesting to see where he gets drafted since RB is so devalued now.

Clemson has some good athletes and Gurley is just blowing by them. Is there a RB close to as good as him in college?

No. He's the best college RB since AD.

(I'm definitely not as impressed with Clemson's defense as you are, but it doesn't matter.)

Didn't mean to imply that Clemson's defense is particularly good, just that this isn't some bunch of scrubs. They've recruited some athletes under Dabo.

Fournette

He's going to have to prove it first. I can't put a true freshman on that pedestal before he's played a full game.

A monster. I hate LSU but this guy is unreal.

I hope I'm not jinxing it, but Florida State looks less than impressive so far. Oklahoma State very much in this thing. FSU just used their last timeout with 23 minutes left.

Melvin Gordon is nearly as impressive as Todd Gurley.

This is the type of game that Florida State gets to avoid by not playing in a conference that's any good. There may be a Clemson that wins 9-10 games, but the rest of that conference is 7-5 dreck or worse so they don't get tested with any consistency.

Yeah, I was kinda thinking the same thing. Last year they destroyed everyone they played before the NCG so it didn't matter much, but the ACC should make for a soft landing if they can get out of this one.

Of course, selfishly I'm hoping ND can draw one of these less than perfect performances so they can have a shot.

Outside of Georgia, this hasn't been a good weekend for the SEC.

LSU is losing, South Carolina looked dreadful and Vandy got squashed. I guess Alabama looked ok, but they had trouble with WVU. Auburn took a while to pull away from Arkansas too.

I am thinking after today that the SEC will be down this year. I thought Bama and LSU might be reloading this year and it appears that it may be true. I think some of the lower teams like Ark, MSU and TN are better this season but the SEC is not as strong at the top, unless Georgia or someone surprises everybody.

for those west of the Rockies, look up Royce Freeman on the Ducks. Thomas Tyner is noted for his speed (he is also a sprinter at UO) but Freeman is ridiculous.

Games like this for UK is just mental masturbation for the fans. Impressive win but still don't know anything about them compared to last year.

Gurley is an incredible RB but doesn't he have a history of injury problems and a bit of the fumblitis?

Fournette looked very pedestrian tonight.

Auburn's defense played horribly in the first half but only allowed 60 yards in the second half. Other than that, I was pleased with the game. Jeremy Johnson is an outstanding backup qb, the running game looked a lot better the second half when Nick Marshall was a threat to keep it on the zone read. Duke Williams is going to be one and done at receiver, Melvin Ray made a terrific one handed grab. Thank god Robinson Therezie was cleared to play Friday night as he is Auburn's best at the star position (safety/lb hybrid).

The 595 yards against Arkansas was the 6th most against an SEC opponent in school history, btw.

Yeah, I knew the east would be down, but still thought South Carolina would be a national contender. Things could easily change, but they didn't look like one Thursday night. What really surprised me was Bama looking kinda pedestrian and LSU not looking good at all.

And just one slight nitpick with your post, Tennessee has some great, young skill position players, but we're not going to be better than last year.
