All jokes aside...Does Mike Olt still have trade value? He did show power as a part-time player. Went back to Iowa and has done well. I understand his overall game was bad in the majors, but could he be a solid piece in a deal for some pitching?

I'd imagine very very little.

Was just admiring Bryant's minor league player page. His at bats over the last 2 seasons are about equal to a full season.

153 games

648 PA, 547 AB

126 runs

186 hits

96 XBH

47 HR

129 RBI

82 BB

.340/.435/.691/1.126

16 SB

170 K

Not too shabby.

Yeah, I messed that one up. It's 38 just this year. Editing to fix it. Nice catch.

Just looked up Mark Appel's minor league stats.

Thank you, Astros!

Yeah, I have an Astro fan buddy of mine (there are a couple) who is beside himself about that. I think he was putting all his eggs in Appel's basket.

How the hell was he promoted to AA after an ERA of almost 10 in High A??

Did you miss that whole thing?

This and Colorado letting Jacob Turner slide by them and even getting all that talent in the Shark deal should have Theo walking with a little hitch in his step of late, even if the major league club has been nothing short of miserable prior to the Baez call up. But these latest moves make me think of the song lyrics....

"Move aside, and let the man go through!"

TIL Mel Rojas has a son in the Pirates minor league system

I learned last night that Steve Bedrosian's kid pitches for the Angels. Just got called up a week ago.

Yeah I must have. Just caught up reading about his bullpen session at MMP and all the Astros players bitching about it.

Ah crap, Mike Olt is becoming a thing again among Cubs fans. This is going to be maddening all off-season.

I almost want him to get a September call-up just so when he flails again, maybe he'll finally go away as anything other than an 8th infielder stashed in AAA.

Mike Olt has the lowest batting average of any non-pitcher with over 250 plate appearances in baseball history. Not that that means much for his trade value or whatever, but just thought it was amazing.

I kind of want Mike Olt to fail horribly now that he's back in Iowa so I can feel better about the good performances of our prospects there.

absolutely. even if olt only hits .250, i'm going to spend the whole offseason worrying that that means i should lop 110 points off bryant's projected average.

I think Olt is a much better hitter than what we saw this year. He just got into a really bad behavior cycle and couldn't get out of it. He'd take hittable pitches and swing at [expletive]. I really do think he has value as a bench bat and late inning defensive replacement. However, he's done with the Cubs I would imagine.

I'd be shocked if he didn't get called back up. It's his first successful run of any length at AAA. They should bring him back and give him 15-20 starts to see if anything has changed. Doesn't hurt us and we should learn enough to put this thing to rest one way or the other. I can buy him never truly being comfortable, since he never received consistent time as a starter. Doesn't hurt anything to give him a last shot, I hope they do.

Only Olt doesn't even have 250 plate appearances he had 187 this year. Its all together possible that Baez puts up very similar numbers in the same number of plate appearances. Is everyone going to write him off to? I don't think people should be so quick to write him off. Id like to see him back up when the rosters expand and give him another shot.

212 this year, 40 with Texas a couple years ago. Again, not using it as justification for what kind of player he is, just showing his historically...unique (for lack of a better word) the start of his major league career has been.

1) Mike Olt appeared in the major leagues before this year

2) Plate appearances are not the same thing as at-bats

3) Age matters
