Why trade for Stanton - they're not competing next year and have 3 guys that could be Stanton-like within 2 years anyway. If they falter then Almora/Schwarber/McKinney or Russell or whoever for Stanton.

Just added Javy and dropped Nick Swishingaroundthebowluntilthesuctionpullshimdown - my charge starts tomorrow!

because there's a good chance that none of them will ever be as good as stanton, and if you can get stanton for probably not stanton, you do it 10x out of 10

Yeah but if all three end up as busts the farm team is still stacked enough to trade for him -and none of them need to be "as" good as Stanton - if they were closer to competing I think I'd be more on board - I'd wait a year at least and see what develops.

what? that makes no sense. there is a 100% chance that at least one of the fab five don't meet their "potential". there is no incentive to wait to find out which one(s) that is, and every reason to turn hope into an actual major leaguer. and i don't know why you're hung up on competing next year, the deal would have to be done with an extension otherwise it's a non-starter

is there anybody with stanton's profile that's been traded in the recent past? assuming baez, russell , bryant, or soler is the centerpiece, what else would they get?

not that i can think of, but i'd guess it's something like baez, almora, and some AA or lower pitcher

This made me smile quite a bit:

Jeff Aronson @jamfan40

Tomorrow, Javier Baez (12/1/92) will replace Bryce Harper (10/16/92) as the youngest player in baseball. #Cubs

Yeah but if all three end up as busts the Cubs can then sign Stanton as a Free Agent, right? Whats his contract situation?

And while Russell might not have the power potential of the other 3 (or even Schwarber), he seems most 'can't miss' to me out of the bunch and I really hope we don't trade him. When he's ready, he'll come up. Someone will move positions or will be moved, literally, but I think he's a big part of the future and is untouchable, along with Rizzo and Bryant.

I think it's Rougned Odor actually but that's ridiculous that Harper is still that young.

When Harper was on rehab in high-A earlier this season, he was like the third youngest guy on the team.

I'd rather use the Stanton money to buy out the arb years of Bryant, Baez and Russell along with their first few years of free agency. Then I would hope two of the three reach their potential.

we'll be doing that anyway if at all possible for any of these guys that don't suck early on. no need to shy away from stanton for those purposes.

Sahadev Sharma was just on The Game and suggested that Theo and Co. could be showcasing Javy for a potential Stanton trade. I hadn't considered that, and I'm not sure how I feel about it.

well, the Marlins could use a left side of their infield.

It is, indeed, Rougned Odor. And it's not really even close. 2/4/94. Seems like a pretty egregious error to make in a statement like that. It's also not tough information to figure out.

Maybe an NL/AL oversight?
