It's entirely possible I misheard or Sutcliffe misrepeated.

Either way, it's not serious that we're actually going to do it. It's just fun to pretend.

We'll be a playoff team next year. I truly believe that.

So... Hammel is complaining about being pulled...

Saw that. Basically said its not Renteria making the call. My guess is he's gone prior to his next start.

I did one of those back-of-the-napkin WAR projections and even if we did literally nothing this offseason I'd have us at 79-83. Even a Theo special offseason of almost nothing would get us to .500, and even I'm not that pessimistic.

Actually making the playoffs? Eh, we'll definitely have a decent chance. But a lot can go wrong and it's really easy to have a good team and finish 6th or 7th instead of top-5.

I wonder if the plan for Wada isn't just for him to be the DH guy.

:( I'm not ready to start the dismantling yet.

I honestly think between Wada, Beeler, and Hendricks that over the course of the rest of the season, we won't see a drop off from what Hammel does going forward.

Bryant the Destroyer will be worth at minimum a 5 WAR next year

I keep going back to Rizzo as an offensive comp. Rizzo was 22/23 in the 2012 season, and he split the year pretty evenly between Iowa and Chicago. He put up an 1.101 OPS in Iowa and .805 in Chicago, and that's roughly in the neighborhood of the drops we've seen from just about everyone graduating from Iowa to Chicago lately (except Junior Lake, for some reason).

Bryant turns 23 next January and has an 1.138 OPS with a higher K-rate and much higher BABIP than Rizzo did. He's also had less time as a pro so I think he has more room to improve quickly than Rizzo did, so I kind of want to just call it all a wash and expect an .800 OPS from him in his first year too.

With average-ish 3b defense, that's roughly a 3.5-4 win player.

An argument over if Bryant will be a 4 or 5 WAR player in his rookie year sounds like a fun argument to me! I hope we have more of those types of things said as this year and next progresses...."I see Alcantara as a 750 OPS guy" "Nah, more like 810" Edited by DiamondMind

I really don't like those guys as much as you do. Like *maybe* they can be kind of OK but I wouldn't be surprised if any of them got a Germano-esque shelling either.

Bryant also had less cancer, I think.
