How do they afford Gasol?

Amnesty Boozer, trade Taj and Dunleavy

How much money is Pau getting in that scenario? Have fun stopping teams with Carmelo and Pau on the floor. I really don't see Pau as any better than Taj right now. Plus Melo would be mad. He's hoping Taj stops his man after he blows by him on the way to the rim.

Would probably have enough space, even with Melo at the max, to get him 10-12 a year.

Bulls will visit Pau Gasol tomorrow in LA.

Saw that, really don't know if him and Noah would be a great pair to matchup. Seems like the lane would be awfully clogged on offense.

It's their plan to keep Rose healthy by just keeping him out of the paint altogether.

Just give him some rubber bands to play with during the regular season.

That can't be right. Unless you are assuming some amazing 3 way trade where we are dealing Boozer, Taj, and others and taking back Melo and Pau. In that situation we can take back $5M(?) more than we send out and could then possibly pay them that much.

NYK gets: Taj, Dunleavy, Randolph, expirings, TPE, assets

LAL gets: Boozer, assets

CHI gets: Melo, Pau

I think that's the only scenario in which Melo could get max money and Pau could get more than the MLE.

ESPN reporting that Boozer will be amnestied.

EDIT: The amnesty report was on the "bottom line". ESPN webpage and RealGM reporting that Booz was told he will be traded or amnestied, but they haven't decided which.

The Sun Times reported that Booz will be amnestied:

The Chicago Sun-Times reported Boozer already had been informed the Bulls would use the amnesty provision on him.

I'm pretty sure Pau has said money isn't his focus. There's been some speculation he'll sign for the MLE in the right situation.

Knicks are flying to LA tonight to meet with Melo and try to get a decision from him ASAP. Sounds like they expect to resign him.

Based on? Other than the rampant (and I'm not saying it's not justified or justifiable) belief/speculation that he won't turn down the additional money?

Basically I'm asking if there's some sourced report you're basing it on?

Half listening to ESPN I thought they said something like that but upon looking at realgm just speculation

Wouldn't Pau have to take a pretty huge discount to play in NY?

He's basically said he would in the right situation.

Is losing in the first round for N.Y. the right situation?

I'm not saying the Knicks ARE a good situation. I can definitely see Pau believing in Phil though. And I can see Melo not wanting to leave and thinking him, Pau, and Phil is a nice start to rebuilding them.

Kobe is meeting with Melo AFTER he meets the Knicks, by the way.

If money is a true factor here, Chicago doesn't come remotely close to New York or LA as far as endorsement opportunities go. I've read previously no city comes in at much more than half of what those 2 cities can offer in endorsements.

So would jordan have had double the endorsements in LA or NY?

Is Melo or anyone else MJ?

Which Knicks have really blown up the endorsement scene?

Yeah I don't get the more endorsements in NY or LA thing, be really good at basketball and you'll get endorsements. Unless there are like local restaurants and high end car dealerships that are tossing out money in La and NY that I don't know about.

Rose already gets that Giordano's money, but Melo could get Lou Malnati's.

According to Forbes, DRose is the 3rd highest paid player in the NBA (including endorsements), just behind Kobe and Lebron. Carmelo would be just fine endorsement-wise in Chicago.

The GMP of LA is like 1 and 1/2 times that of Chicago. New York is like 2 and 1/2. Where there is more money, there is more opportunity. Does it affect these guys enough to sway them? I have no idea. But it could. All we truly have to go on is history and history has told us so far that the truly elite basketball players have stayed away from Chicago since MJ, unless they were drafted by us. Can it change? Sure. But until it does, I'm not going to keep getting my hopes up so much.
