Mills being the weakest link on the line, it will be interesting to see what happens if Britton plays well during Week 1, 2, 3, etc.

 

Britton's hurt too. I think Mills will be back before he will. Michael Ola would start at RT, presumably, if both are out. He's done a good job in preseason so far. And he's young enough to make it interesting if he plays well to start. I think Mills will be there for the opener though. Feels like they are "saving" him. Surgery in January. He has practiced in camp. He did go thru minis.

And it could just be lip service, but both Trestman and Cutler have really had high praise for Ola.

Given the fact that Mills wasn't very good last year, I'm not all that worried about his potential absence.

 

He's just a guy, at best.

 

Last year's version was just a guy. But it's not out of the realm of possibility (and close to probable if healthy) that he is better this year than he was last year as a 5th round pick out of a small school.

Yeah, Mills was definitely the week link, but for a 6th round rookie or whatever he was, he did a pretty damn good job. I'm happy he's back out there.

The ESPN Bears guys have no clue what is happening. I saw a projected roster on ESPN the other day and it was probably more off than it would be with me guessing. Had them keeping 10 OL, which may have never been done in league history. No Chris Williams. No Santonio. Austen Lane over the young DEs, Bass and Washington. Oh and the long snapper was the dude that just got cut.

Doesn't really bother me. What other safeties have caught your eye in the first two games? Conte's bad...but I'm not sure we have safeties that are better.

The Linebackers are more of a concern IMO. As long as the Dline plays well the Safety play will be better.

Definitely, flip tables he was horrible last year. But he did have 3 INTs (a big one early in that last game) and a forced fumble last year. None of the other guys at FS have shown they can be in position to make turnovers, just tackles. Of course, 1 is a rookie and the other has never started in his career.

Dead on accuracy, except for maybe 1 point. I seem to remember Britton lining up to help Bushrod just as much as Mills, because Bushrod typically had the much better pass rusher.

The Bears used six offensive linemen on 16 percent of plays last year. No other team used an extra lineman on even 10 percent of plays.

 

I'd love to know what the percentage was under Lovie.

If you can even pretend it is important enough to watch, the only "important" part is the first half, and the only truly late part will be the completely meaningless fourth quarter.

Eh, I'd get the gripe a bit more if it was Sunday or Monday...or even Thursday. But on a Friday night? I'm fine with it.
