Realistically, assuming we cut Peppers, we need 2 starting DE, a starting CB, a starting SS, and could use a DT upgrade and a FS upgrade as well. And this is figuring DJ being brought back, when it's still a need at LB, even if he is.

Personally, I don't think we can count on more than 2 starters coming thru the draft, although I can see rotational players also contributing on top of that.

Re-sign DJ and spend a 4-6 round pick on LB

Draft a DT by round 3

Spend on FA DE and spend 1-2 round pick here too

Re-sign Peanut and spend 4-6 round pick here

Sign SS and spend 1-3 round pick on FS

That's my guess, leaves 2 picks in the 4-6 rounds to spend between O-Line, WR, TE, and QB.

I'd like to see:

Houston at DE. Whitner, Mitchell, Ward, whoever at SS. Walter Thurmond III at CB.

Trade down, get an extra 3rd. Draft DT, DE, CB in the first 3 rounds. Maybe throw in a backup RB or QB if one falls to the 3rd (Mettenberger, Garoppolo). Then S, LB, TE, and whichever position of RB/QB you don't pick with that extra 3rd.

I would be pretty surprised to see Houston at anything but the 3 technique.

Looks like McCown coming back is remote. Not that I really care. Trestman can make another McCown.

Frankly, I'm fine with Jordan Palmer as the backup.

Apparently McCown is starting the bidding at $4m/yr.

Sure why not. Go get 'em Jets.

Looks like Tampa wants him, Tillman, and Hester.

So Ward is leaving Cleveland, since they just signed Whitner.

Whitner got 4/$28. That's crazy.

Ward was wanting 8 per year. Lol Browns.

Despite the fact he's been a 4-3 DE his entire career?

Houston to Bears - 5/$35

Per Schefter

I wonder how much is guaranteed and how much he got for year one. Peppers hasn't been cut yet.

They're going to go from D'Qwell Jackson and TJ Ward to Karlos Dansby and Donte Whitner. Probably getting older and worse in the process, while spending more money.

No idea who this guy is but just saw it after reading this post so

Lamarr Houston to #Bears is a great signing. Love it. Versatile DE could also play 3-tech at 300lbs.

"Could also" play 3-tech is a lot different from "anything other than 3-tech".

Big fan of Matt Miller but Houston isn't 300 anymore (listed there). He could play 3-tech on 3rd downs though.

Matt Miller is great. He's on the Score a lot and I've found him to be very reasonable in his scouting.

Rodger [expletive] Saffold just got 5 years/42.5 Mil from the Raiders.

[expletive] awesome. I'm so glad we've got a handle on the O-Line now.

McCluster to Titans. Relevant to Bears, as now the Chiefs are expected to go after Devin Hester. Looks like Hester will be going to play for Lovie or Toub.

Can't blame him.

I wanted him back, FWIW.
