I'm intrigued to see how the HOF ballot shakes out due to the huge backlog. I know goony doesn't care, but I'd like to see what we wind up with when limited to 10 selections for what many feel are more than 10 eligibles. Poll only allows for 30 options so I dropped the bottom 6 guys according to WAR: Armando Benitez, Sean Casey, Eric Gagne, Jacque Jones, JT Snow, Mike Timlin.

I have an irrational hatred of Curt Schilling. I can never vote for him for anything.

thats not irrational

Oh, I didn't vote for Maddux btw. There are 19 guys on the ballot I feel are deserving. I figured Maddux was going in regardless, so he doesn't need my vote. I opted for the 10 guys closest to 75% and closest to 5%.

That's how obvious HoFers don't get unanimous votes. I hate that [expletive]. I understand why voters do it, but I think it's stupid. No offense.

To get to 19, I've got:

Bagwell

Biggio

Bonds

Clemens

Glavine

Maddux

McGwire

Palmeiro

Piazza

Raines

Schilling

Sosa

Thomas

(fairly certain you have those)

Then I would guess:

Martinez

Mussina

McGriff

Kent

Smith

Walker

Is that the right 19? I could see Trammel or Morris too.

If you're limited to ten guys, though, and you know a couple of guys are going to get in, I don't see anything wrong with giving those votes to guys you think are deserving but need the votes more for whatever reason.

It's going to be really annoying when only Jack Morris and Maddux get in this year, and then Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson, and John Smoltz join the ballot next year.

That's one way they can fail to get unanimous votes, but it can just as easily come from the holier than thou types who only pick 2 or 3 guys and determine they don't want anybody to get a unanimous vote, and/or first ballot. And really, as pointless as HOF debates are, fretting about whether somebody got in unanimously or only with 97% of the vote is an even bigger waste of time.

No offense.

Everyone I picked had around 20 votes except Mussina, and Glavine is the only one who was close to 20 who I didn't pick.

You guys, Mussina > Glavine.

I think Glavine gets in because it's a "story." I'm still hopeful Morris gets left out

I've never seen a writer use that explanation for not voting somebody. It hasn't really been an issue because up until last year it was rare there were 10 hall of famers on a single ballot. As goony said, guys get left out because argle bargle if Mickey Mantle wasn't unanimous ain't nobody gon be unanimous

Yeah, I put those things together in my head. The "he'll already have enough votes without mine" and "ain't nobody unanimous" people are both in the same class to me.

trammell should definitely have more votes. probably mussina too.

I had him on but when I started whittling down he didn't make he 10 ten. If we don't go by the rules of the thread I'd have him in.

I was listening to Gabe Kapler on XM, that dude is really intelligent and presents advanced metrics in an approachable way for the fans. He made a strong case for Schilling and destroyed Morris.

I wish the Cubs would have gotten him for color on WGN radio.
