Wasn't 100%...that he could start?

No that he was the guy he wanted starting. I could be reading it wrong but I expected him to basically say that there was never a question who would be starting at QB and his responses were more like "this was the plan we made a month ago"

This catch somewhat reminds me of the Jeffery catch vs Nebraska his junior year...

I thought he was going to be a top 10 overall pick when I saw that live. Thank goodness South Carolina had QB problems the next year which caused his stock to drop.

Sorry if it was posted before the game, I saw similar reports posted here but not this detailed:

All week the Chicago Bears have stood publicly behind the decision to start Jay Cutler against the Cleveland Browns instead of Josh McCown, but privately that is not the case.

One Bears player told ESPN's Bob Holtzman that Cutler threw a number of interceptions in practice this week and that it's been weeks since McCown -- who leads the NFL in QBR -- has thrown any. The player said with each mistake Cutler made the defense grew more and more frustrated.

Sources said that players bit their tongues this week out of respect for coach Marc Trestman but that some defensive players are likely to speak up if Cutler doesn't play well Sunday.

Cutler is aware of how the locker room feels and because of the internal division Cutler has more pressure on him Sunday than he's had in a long time.

i think we need to draft a safety in the first round.

That Nebraksa game was his junior year (that was his last college game).

Wait, wait, wait...THE DEFENSE? That is hysterical. Who the [expletive] are they to gripe about who is starting with how horrendous they've been? The offense has worked with Cutler or McCown, yet they're bitching like they're not doing dumb [expletive] like giving up the TD at the end of today's game or getting gashed by nearly ever run game out there?

That's what I thought too. I was going to look it up. That was fat Alshon.

Bears defensive players, "man, Cutler is going to make us lose games!"

Let that sink in.

lol yeah

the luxury here is that the Bears can just take the best defensive player available with every pick.

I think the funniest thing is that the defense hasn't been intercepting McCown in practice and their players complaining about Cutler really highlights that fact.

Or sign Jarius Byrd if possible. I think DT/DE will be the 1st round pick.

There's probably only one safety worthy of being taken in the first round this year. I'd rather sign Byrd and address DT, DE or CB in the first round.

So with the Lions playing twice before the next Bears game, there is a wide range of scenarios the Bears could be playing with when they step on the field:

If the Lions win twice, the Bears will need to win to stay alive going into week 17

If the Lions lose twice, the Bears can clinch the NFC North with a win against Philly (sorry, the Packers will need to lose or tie once as well and they are currently losing to Dallas)

If the Lions split their games, the Bears will need to win to control their own destiny heading into week 17

I wouldn't go S in the first round, though I do think Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is pretty good. DL is more of a need. And with Wright a FA, I'd just let him walk and sign a better player. I'd probably draft a FS (probably around the usual 3rd round) to at least challenge Conte, who I believe is in the last year of his deal next year anyway.

I've been pretty convinced that Conte would be better with better players around him, but he's had plenty of plays (like the TD today) where they have been 100% on him and only him. I'd keep him around though, because he is cheap and young though.
