Week 15: Bears (7-6) @ Browns (4-9) Noon, FOX

McCown will get 3Mil easily in free agency. Whether to be a backup or to be a bridge to a young QB. And you're looking at 14-16Mil for Cutler depending on if he's franchised or signed long-term with a cap friendly # the first year. That's 17-19Mil on the QB position. I don't know that that's going to happen.

And I know Cutler and McCown are friends and Josh has said the company line that he's just a backup. But this is potentially his last NFL contract. Does he want to be in a situation where he's the clear #2, with no chance to ever be a full-time starter? If I were him, I'd take less to sign with the Browns or Jags or some [expletive].

OK. I got it. I am terribly sorry I mixed up McCown with McNown. That doesn't make Jay great.

AGAIN, this isn't about saying Jay should be benched. I wonder going into next year if you guys are that sold on him, and just defending him because meatballs hate him is crazy talk. He is very talented, but he does make terrible mistakes. You can't deny that.

Nope, not "giving up football", but thanks for the insight.

You just described every single QB in the NFL.

Do you want to end your career starting for the Jags or be a member of a playoff team? Josh strikes me as a guy who might want a Super Bowl instead.

Not McCown. He made one mistake this year!

The chronology of the offseason is going to play a role. They can't really pull the trigger on McCown until after the draft and franchise window. If no QB is drafted, I'd expect McCown to be back. I don't think drafting an early-round QB is a given, unless the chances of a Cutler extension look to be especially bleak.

i hope he gets soe money to be a starter but i would be sad if he was a backup somewhere else next year.

good thing the bears are turning over a bunch of defensive players next season.

He also leads the league in that QBR stat and put up 1000 yards in 3 weeks. I'm sure he thinks he could win games if he's playing, regardless of the team. He's spent enough time in the league not playing. He was teaching school or something last year. I'm sure he wants to play and get a decent payday or two more than he wants to watch his team get a ring from the sidelines.

You can't go into free agency with 0 QBs. I think this increases the chances Jay is back. If the franchise deadline passes and Jay is not tagged, I think that means he will not be back and in that case, I think you sign McCown the first day of free agency.

The draft isn't til May this year. The Bears will have either Cutler or McCown on the roster by then. I don't see much chance they have both though, simply because of the price tags both will command.

To be fair, again, I posed this as a question. I don't hate Jay and never went full meatball on him, although some of you clearly thought so. He just plays like crap sometimes and I wanted your opinions on why you defend the guy so vehemently. I don't care if he is a jerk. So what?

He is better than most, but while talented, he does make some Sexy Rexy-like choices at times.

This is not an attack on you personally nor does it mean anything in the long term, but I find it funny reading these discussions as Drew Brees is having maybe the worst game in his career.

Could Ed Reed be worse than our safeties?

Yes.

I would submit that Drew Brees' 3 worst games of his career are in St. Louis. For some reason, he plays like garbage there. I actually am posting on here because the game was so bad. The Rams strength is our biggest weakness. Their D-front versus our O-line. It's been that way every time we play.

i will also point out that Bowman appears to be playing very well.

With the Panthers 3 minutes away from winning, I believe the Bears will be officially eliminated from Wild Card consideration, as the Saints/Panthers and 49ers will all be 10-4, meaning if they lost out and the Bears won out they would all tie at 10-6 with the Bears having the worst conference record among them (not to mention a H2H loss to the Saints).

In other "insanely improbable/who the hell is actually thinking about this?" news, the Panthers win eliminates the Bears from any chance of getting a bye.

Holy [expletive], just like I said a couple weeks ago the Bears are gonna go 10-6 and miss the playoffs.

Two years in a row.

Pretty crappy that the 2 WC teams will have to go on the road to worse teams in the 1st round. Especially since, the WC will be a warm weather/dome team that may have to go to the cold to play.
