McCarthy says theres a slim to none chance Rodgers plays this week. I'm still not sure if I should be cheering for the Lions or Packers on Thursday.

If Lions win: Lions will be 7-5, if the Bears win Sunday they will need to still play 1 game better than the Lions with 4 games left. If they lose its 2 games with 4 left making it very very difficult to win the division. But the Packers would need to play 2 games better than the Lions the rest of the way.

If Packers win: They will be at worst 0.5 games out of the division lead with Rodgers back probably for the final 4 games, 1 of which is against the Bears. Lions would be 6-6 which is good since we lose the tiebreaker. The tiebreaker is pointless for the Bears vs. Packers unless the Bears tie one of their last 4.

The most reasonable way to the playoffs for the Bears seems to be to win four out of the last five, with the Lions losing two and the Packers losing at least once. I think the Packers winning gives the Bears a better chance. The Bears are very likely to need to beat the Packers in either scenario to win the division.

Football Outsiders projects the Bears to win the NFC north and get the 4 seed based on the games they have left on the schedule. Only 43.0% chance of making the playoffs overall though vs 42.9% for the Lions and 19.9% for the Packers.

Some Bears reporters I follow on Twitter are making it sound like he was joking about the OTA thing

He was laughing as he said it yeah.

We need to bring him back.

I'm guessing that means the Bears lose to whoever wins the NFC East (Dallas or Philly).

Yeah I think you gotta pull for Green Bay in this one, though I don't think they have much of a shot without Rodgers. I just don't foresee that many more losses for the Lions, they've already given you enough clunkers this year and the bad teams just keep coming for them. But whatever, its all out of the Bears hands now.

You ever bit into a perfectly good looking banana only to find is has a huge rotten part inside?

That's this bear season.

OK. Not saying you are wrong but I don't see the Lions as a team that has a tradition of quality football either.

Forte is going to play. Paea also looks able to go. And Jeremiah (Jay) Ratliff is expected to make his Bears debut. Pass rush be damned. Hopefully those 2 can not get driven out of their gaps in the run game.

Would allow Wootton to move to the edge too, where he's far more effective.

They can't make Conte hit his gaps and make tackles.

Slowing down the run game with the front four makes the decision-making easier for the linebackers and safeties.

Yeah, the LBs have had linemen on them too quickly and the safeties have been faced with making an open field tackle with the RB having more momentum than they have. Just a half second hold up of those linemen makes everything different. Of course, it's Adrian Peterson week so it may not matter anyway.

Major Wright pulled his hammy. Questionable for Sunday. Anthony Walters is out. Craig Steltz and Chris Conte may be the Bears only safeties available, though admittedly I have no idea what position that Derrick Martin dude plays.

Martin is a safety.

Martin is a safety.

He's listed as a safety, but has been signed both times when a CB has gone down (Hayden then Tillman). He's also not on the depth chart at either.

Oh and the Bears just promoted S Sean Cattouse from the practice squad. He was Conte's safety mate at CAL.

how many weeks has it been since the bears forced a fumble and the ball didn't bounce right back to the other team's ball carrier?

Elect to receive if given the choice. Score early and often. Make Ponder beat you.

Don't fall behind early allowing them to pound AP and dominate the clock.
