Season not over yet?

Just need to get Briggs, Ratliff, Conte and Wright back from their injuries. Wait Conte and Wright aren't injured?

Looking at efficiency numbers, the Bears' D is actually holding its own excepting the safeties and pressuring the passer,

You can throw those numbers in the trash, then

Or you could take them for what they are, measures of efficiency without bias.

The D line is good at run stuffing, but once RBs reach the second level the secondary is terrible at cleaning up afterward. Either opposing RBs get 0 yards or 5+.

As pass defense goes, the line has been unable to get pressure, so the better receivers (#1 WR and TE) generally have enough time to get free and get good yards. Safeties are actually generally not terrible against the pass.

Yeah, we have all seen the run defense this year. it's a calamity, and you can't just blame the safeties.

Vegas line went from Lions +2.5 to pick 'em.

I think you mean Lions -2.5 to pick 'em.

Yeah, it went from Lions -2.5 to Bears 1.5 back to a Pick Em.

I think Vegas overreacted a bit initially as I don't think Jay is worth 4 points to the line.

Hoge says Jay got back faster than expected by getting a lot of soft tissue work from a chiropractor (massaging Jay's groin all day?), getting on ARP (a machine that breaks down scar tissue to allow increased blood flow to the injured area, thus accelerating healing time), and received platelet rich plasma injections. Jay also proclaimed himself 100% healthy.

Jeff Shiver is the Bears scout (he's actually Executive Scout/Assistant Director of College Scouting) at the Oregon-Stanford game tonight. Every NFL team has at least one scout.

17 GMs are at the game.

Only player that really interests me for Oregon is Hroniss Granu the center. Lokombo is interesting at LB, I guess. Stanford has a lot of talent of interest.

Love Grasu, favorite center in this draft. I like Ifo Ekpre-Olumu too. Not sure how DeAnthony Thomas' game transfers to the NFL, but he'd be an intriguing slot WR.

I have mixed feelings about Cutler playing in this game. If he winds up running for his life or gets a cheap shot from the dirtiest player in the league, that could make seemingly rushing back from this injury look like a really bad idea. If he plays poorly because he's not 100%- which I'm not convinced he is, than you'll have meatball nation clamoring for what's his face.

On the other hand, this is the most important game of the season in terms of winning the division and Cutler if healthy obviously gives them a better chance to win.

I know this is probably just talk but Cutler and Trestman both said he was 100% healthy and would have no limitations during the game Sunday, meaning he would be able to scramble and throw the deep ball like normal. We will see how true that is on Sunday.

What about that Skov kid?

Unless you think Cutler believes he's Wally Pipp right now, you have to think he's as healthy as he could expect to be by midseason. It will be two full weeks.

I like Skov - he's so much better than last year (when he was still recovering from an ACL tear) but the Bears don't need an MLB. The guy I really like is DE Trent Murphy, who I imagine will get picked in the back half of the first round. They have a few other intriguing guys (including injured DT Ben Gardner and S Ed Reynolds). I also really like CB Alex Carter but he's only a sophomore.

But then again, they all go to Stanford so how tough can they really be?

I doubt he's worried about being Wally Pipped so much as trying to prove his toughness (which fans and media have erroneously questioned before) and play for his new contract whever that might be.

My point is you have to assume he's not afraid of McCown taking his job, so he's not rushing to get back. His contract will be based on how he plays for the whole season, whether that is 14 starts or 15 it's really not that much of a difference, and it serves him no purpose to rush back and potentially play poorly due to lingering health issues. So, if he says he's healthy enough to play, and the doctors say he's healthy enough to play, and the coaches say he's healthy enough to play, he is healthy enough to play.

Not sure how Cutler's doing this. A torn groin is nasty stuff. Maybe the groin just wasn't as bad to begin with.
