i'm fine with anything that has him back by game 1 of the playoffs. the injury might cost them home ice, but if they show up in round 1 they should roll colorado anyways.. unless we get smith'd again.

Further questioning, they couldn't get Q to say that Kane would be back in the regular season...but should be back for the playoffs. Can they put him on LTIR and still have him play in the playoffs? My understanding is that doing that would allow them the cap space somehow for Teuvo?

Teuvo Teravainen travels today from FIN to Windy City. That's CHI, not Lethbridge, in case there was confusion. Lethbridge is windy, too.

They could and they may but they might also LTIR Roszival. Presumably, the Hawks already had a plan for how they were going to add Teuvo under the cap. That plan may have changed in light of Kane's injury. What remains to be seen is if he spends any time with Rockford to get used to the smaller sheet.

The other thing to keep in mind is that if Teuvo plays more than 9 games they are burning a year on his entry level contract. It's a little bit like the rule MLB has where it's better to have the rookie start the year in AAA for an extra year of team control. If they send Teuvo to Rockford for a week, they might be able to use him just enough to get through the 1st round of the playoffs before deciding what to do about his contract. Last thing they'd want to do is be in a position where they use up that year only to get eliminated in the 1st round.

Do the playoffs count against those 9 games?

According to what I read earlier, yes.

Although I know very little about how NHL contracts work.

Yes, the playoffs do count.

Meanwhile, Kane would miss 10 games and 24 days if he goes on LTIR. That's back in time for the playoffs but there goes any chance of coming back ahead of schedule.

Yes.

And if Teuvo gives you a better chance at the Cup, you play him. My guess is that adding Teuvo this year is like adding Kane or Toews was back when they were rookies. He is that good.

Also, if you're worried about keeping him 4 years down the line or whatever, that's dumb. Hossa will be gone by then along with a lot of other guys, including Sharp, Oduya, etc.. Sure, you'll have to pay Saad and re-up 19 and 88, but if you think you can win a title, go for it. This isn't like baseball where you can delay a guy coming up until May and you'll still have the guy for the end of the season/playoffs, this IS the end of the season.

I just hope that Teuvo doesn't feel too much pressure now with Kane out and can just play his game.

GM Stan Bowman didn't say Patrick Kane has knee injury but referred to a player with same injury this season. Meaning, Bryan Bickell's knee.

Yeah I'm not sure what he's saying there. Is he saying that Bickell has a knee injury now? or he had one?

Ah, yeah, I knew Bickell was out tonight too, so I wasn't sure if he was saying that the knee injury had reoccurred. But, re-reading the tweet I see what he's saying.

I'm glad they LTIR ed Kane, it removes any temptation to rush him back. So far Tuevo is saying the right things about not needing to be the star and so forth. It would help reinforce that if the Hawks started him on a line without any of the stars so to speak. I'd like to see these lines:

Versteeg-Toews-Hossa

Sharp-Smith-Saad/ Morin

Bickell/ Morin-Teuvo-Shaw

Bollig-Kruger-Regin/ Morin

That puts pressure on the 2nd line to score but they should be able to. Kruger's line handles the defense and Teuvo's line provides energy and should have it's way with other teams 4th line.
