Other grades:

Jordan Mills 3.4

James Anderson 3.1

Kyle Long -1.7

Hmm, I feel good about Long improving as the season goes on. Didn't notice any glaring mistakes except on that first possession of the game, but I have no ability to evaluate o-lineman except to notice when they f-up.

Well, Geno Atkins is the best DT in the league and it's not particularly close, so -1.7 may as well be 10.0 for a rookie guard in his first NFL game.

No doubt, I was expecting Atkins to run amok.

Now I remember what I wanted to include in my previous ramblings.

Petition to change Maneri's number. I appreciate that he'd like to quickly make us forget about Kellen Davis, but it's just too soon.

Meaningless quirk that probably only I find funny: If the playoffs started after week 1, the Bears would miss the playoffs and Cincy would win the division.

Here's what PFF had to say specifically about Cutler

New Offense

It was tough sledding in the first half for Jay Cutler and the Bears offense. Their 10 points came on a shortened-field touchdown drive and a 58-yard field goal that probably never should have happened because of a missed holding call two plays prior. Then in the second half they started rolling. Cutler led them to scores on two drives, threw a pick caused by contact during his throwing motion, and then ran out the clock on the final drive.

Cutler’s +6.1 grade was his third-best since he was traded to the Bears in 2009. On passes that traveled over 20 yards in the air he was 3-for-3 and passes over 10 yards he was 9-for-12; the Bears’ quarterback had only two downgraded passes all game. It was a superb performance against an excellent defense, but keep in mind, Cutler started off last season hot as well before the wheels started to fall off. I’ll need to see a few more weeks of this before I call the Cutler-Trestman combo a sweeping success.

PFF Game Ball

Jay Cutler’s play was a breath of fresh air for Bears fans. Poised in the pocket, under control, and accurate. It was the most comfortable he’s ever looked in a Bears uniform and his performance deserves this game ball.

Why didn't they start at the 35? Ball went out at the ~50 plus the 15 yard penalty.

Robbie Gould’s 58-yard field goal near the end of the first half Sunday at Soldier Field set a new franchise distance record. But the attempt probably shouldn’t have been that long: Upon further review, referees incorrectly spotted the ball before the Bears’ final possession of the half.

After a shaky Kevin Huber punt that sailed out of bounds at midfield, Cincinnati’s Dre Kirkpatrick was flagged for unnecessary roughness for shoving Eric Weems while out of bounds.

That 15-yard penalty should have given the Bears the ball at the Bengals 35. Instead, officials placed it at the Bengals 44 – 15 yards from where Kirkpatrick shoved Weems but nine yards back of where the ball should have been.

The Bears managed only fouryards on the ensuing possession and with 13 seconds left sent Gould out for the 58-yard attempt.

Asked Monday about that officiating gaffe, Bears coach Marc Trestman said he did not know about it.

In fairness, the flag against Kirkpatrick may have been borderline. The Bengals corner did shove Weems out of bounds but only after the Bears’ special teams ace delivered a forceful shove in the back at the end of the play.

I thought that was odd at the time, but assumed it was correct to spot from the point of the foul.

With NFL officials, assuming they're getting it right is not a good idea.

Hub on The Score now.

Is he trying to figure out how they'll win another game after this debacle?

Arkish is 100% better now than when he was on 670 while still employed by the Bears, his years defending Hatley and Jauron were awful to listen to.

I'm assuming because the Bears are 0-0 against the NFC/Division while many other teams are 1-0 in conference and the Lions are 1-0 against the NFCN

I shudder to think what he was like to begin with, cuz he's awful now too.

Yes, and the Bengals have their division's best conference record.

He was paid to do that. I found it to be funny, especially the call-ins from fans who would point out Jauron's obvious failings, and Hub jumping in with half-hearted defenses to spare Jauron from having to answer.

Once he left the Bears it was almost like he snapped back to the negative side of things, making up for lost time :)
