The Vikings picked up J'Marcus Webb.

Also, I love Alex Brown's wife's response to J'Marcus Webb on Twitter when he was cut:

‏@karimarbrown No no... they gave you 3 years... RT @jmarcuswebb: Good bye, Chicago! I gave you 3 years of me.

I don't wish injury on players, but if it just so happened that Webb needed to be put in at either tackle during one of those Bear games....

Potentially very enjoyable.

i think Cutler gets sacked a few times, but I also think we sack Dalton 4+ times and get at least a turnover off of one of them. In the end, I just don't think Dalton can play well when he's bombarded by flying defenders, whereas, Cutler dodges zombies every single day of his life. Bears 35-14

I've seen a power ranking with the Bengals at 3. Never seen the Bears in the playoffs. Seen them 12th but behind 6 NFC teams.

every time i break it down by position, i come out feeling optimistic. if the line is as improved as it appears to be and this isn't a mirage, I don't see a huge weakness anywhere. the worst starter at any position is Roberto Garza, and it's maybe the least important position on the field. MLB is in inexperienced though talented hands, and DJ Williams is back in the mix, which would give us a steady presence.

it's nice to see some people share my outlook. i feel really really good about the team this season.

So much Bengals love. What am I missing?

I don't put much weight into what CBS says anyway. I know Miami isn't great, but unanimously picking Cleveland to win has to break some sort of NFL cardinal rule.

They return a top ten defense along with AJ Green, Dalton, etc.

If Tillman can contain AJ Green we should win, if he can't it could be a long day. Oh, and Geno Atkins scares the hell out of me.

Does DJ Williams starting after missing basically the entire preseason with a new defense say more about his health/ability or more about Bostic not being as impressive to the coaching staff as he's seemingly looked at times this preseason?

Or am I reading too much into it? Either way, Bostic clearly looked like a playmaker out there, and even if they don't think he's ready to start week 1, he looks to be a legit starter in the future.

I wouldn't read into it too much. Even if healthy, I doubt Williams has the stamina to play full time. At the very least, when the Bears are in their nickel package, I doubt either of Williams or Bostic will be in (Bostic due to his struggles in pass coverage).

Sounds like the depth chart is unofficial, and that Bostic is the starter for this week.

Trial by fire for that new OL.

By comparison, most other matchups will seem rather tame.

Let's see how Trestman game plans the offense to minimize him. I'm thinking just lining up vanilla and dropping Cutler deep every play isn't going to cut it.

Week 1 depth chart: http://www.chicagobears.com/team/depth-chart.html

DJ Williams starting over Jon Bostic.

Ha. I thought this might happen. Nice. Bostic needs more seasoning anyway and Williams has been a quality player in the past.

Funny...last week Bernstein and Abbatacola said that if DJ Williams was already somewhat participating in practice last week, he could be in line to start.

A few hours later Hub came on and said there was no way DJ Williams could be starting week one (and they didn't argue with him).

There's no reason to demote a high rookie draft pick in favor of a 30+ year old veteran who has only played a handful of games in the last 2 years, unless Bostic is terrible. I don't see very many scenarios where Bostic is flat out terrible.

Neither MLB is going to be in the nickel. Anderson is a strong pass defender and Briggs is a star. So, you might as well let the rookie continue to learn on the job instead of making him watch and then being forced to throw him in there 2 or 3 or 12 weeks later when someone gets injured.

Listing DJ as a starter has to be just a formality. Long and Mills haven't technically been named starters either. It's just a ploy to keep the rookies from getting too far ahead of themselves.

It's not really a demotion when he was only filling in for an injured starter.

And Long and Mills are both listed as starters....

Let's be real. Bostic was picked #50 overall. He was going to get a chance to compete for the starting MLB spot. He's the only one in the competition who has played. He hasn't completely taken hold of the job like Long or Mills did, but he clearly hasn't done poorly enough to have lost the job to a guy who hasn't seen the field in a 4-5 weeks and is also learning the defense for the first time.

Long and Mills are listed #1 on the UNOFFICIAL depth chart. As recently as 2 days ago, Trestman was saying, "if" we have to go with those guys, we think they can handle it.

There's no reason to not start Bostic Week 1 and for the entirety of his career until he proves that he can't do it.
