Oh [expletive] you, Dodgers...

According to Peter Gammons, the Dodgers strategy this offseason is to acquire both David Price and Masahiro Tanaka.

Rather than seeking to upgrade their rotation through the Major League free agent market, where they could be forced to surrender draft pick compensation or slot money, this looks like a very plausible alternative. The Dodgers certainly have the pieces in their farm system to swing a deal for Price, and undoubtedly have the cash to win the posting fee for the rights to negotiate with Tanaka. Once again, the Dodgers should be a very intriguing team to watch this Winter.

The line about not giving up a draft pick makes no sense to me. They'd prefer to keep a draft pick vs. giving up multiple established, talented, and developing minor leaguers? This is from Peter Gammons, so...

Jesus.

Well, Nolasco could be a target for us. He was traded midseason, so like Anibal last year, he wouldn't cost a pick.

first team in history with a 10 man rotation.

What if the Dodgers just bought everyone that is 16 or older with little league experience or better so that everyone else had to field snot nosed computer nerds to field a baseball team?

Man, what a cool team.

I bet they barely enjoy their world series next year knowing they did it the wrong way.

While the Cubs are in a position where busted-ass WGN, of all stations, thinks they have them over a barrel.

I really, really, really hate the "ONLY THE COBS" nonsense, but...

They had the highest attendance in baseball this year and are in a gigantic market.

Yeah, they led MLB in attendance by 5k per game, and still only filled 82% of capacity. Dodger Stadium is huge.

Tanaka threw 160 pitches in a 4-2 complete game loss last night. Never change, Japan.

So Tanaka came in the next night to close things out in the 9th inning.

Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan reports that the Yankees are "going to be bold" in the bidding for Japanese right-hander Masahiro Tanaka.

Passan goes even further, adding that the Yanks "are "willing to spend more money than any team ever has bidding on a Japanese player." A big reason why Tanaka appeals to the club is because the posting fee they'd have to pay would not count against the luxury tax. Executives told Passan they believe Tanaka's posting fee will top $75 million. The right-hander will likely require an additional $50 million to sign to a contract.

I want Tanaka as much as the next guy, but not for a $75+ million posting fee

Why? Not that we can afford it, but I wouldn't care if we won the bid at 100 mill+, it's a one time fee. Granted, a 100 mill fee would also mean a 100 mill contract for him, but finding TOR types at his age are very rare opportunities.

If we pay him 100 million we would have to pass on Santana.

Don't most guys think Tanaka is more of a middle of the rotation guy than a TOR guy on a good team? I agree that if he truly is a TOR guy it's worth it I just thought I've heard he isn't quite there, maybe I'm wrong.

The comp used most often and not because of heritage, is Kuroda. Semantic debate aside, maybe he's not a TOR guy, but definitely a frontline guy at least.

OK, so only the top team gets to negotiate with Tanaka, but pays average of top 3 bids. Again, not likely to be us.....But I think I like our chances better than having Tanaka choose between 3 teams.

Wait, wait, wait... so if the top 3 bids are $60 million, $40 million, and $20 million, the people who bid $60 million only have to pay $40 million? It's not an issue of Tanaka getting to choose between the top 3 bidders who he wants to negotiate with? Is this new information?
