Alcantara's 2 for 3 with a BB and a K. Cabrera with 7 and gave up 3 hits and a walk, striking out 3. He really seems to be in a groove.

He had a 13/2 GB/FB and only used 83 pitches to finish those 7 innings. He's gone at least 6 innings in 9 of his last 10 and gone 7+ in 5 of 10.

3-4 for Alcantara now.

His numbers look doubly crazy when you see how bad the Southern League is at offense.

I had no idea he was 5th in the league in OPS.

Only Pederson has more HRs than him among players under 25

Alcantara is...

5th in OPS (very close to 4th)

3rd in HR

7th in RBI

T4th in SB

4th in SLG

13th in BB

All at 21 years old. Not bad.

And of course when talking about the SBs, you can't ignore his success rate. 22 of 25 this year, 25 of 29 last year.

It'll be interesting to see where he ends up on the offseason prospect lists. He's got to be well into the top 100 range if he keeps this up throughout the season.

Is Soler a better prospect than Alcantara? Defend your answer.

Yeah, the top end potential and extensive time off for Soler has to be taken into account. Alcantra will end up at a bit more important defensive position at 2B, but Soler's power potential still has me sold. Plus I'm still a little leery of Alcantra's ability to continue switch hitting and who knows what hitting from the same side of the plate against all pitchers will do to him. It's not as far apart as prospect rankings will say though.

Zac Rosscup's K/9 has reached 14. Send him to Iowa, what more does he have to do?

And have Cabrera come with him while we're on the subject.

Paniagua last pitched July 2nd. I wonder when he'll take the mound next and for whom. I'd love to see him get an inning or two in for the AZL Cubs while they're evaluating him. Today would be nice...

Recognize.

We'll see what Soler does in August and in the fall league. Right now, I still say no.

I'm not saying there isn't a good argument for Alcantara moving up the prospect lists, but when your "what have you done for me lately" comes while a guy is recovering from a freak injury, that's a little rough.

Where do you guys think they'll send Paniagua after he gets acclimated? Daytona or Tenn?

Certainly not Tennessee. I'd guess Daytona with a better chance at Kane County than Tennessee.

My sense is between 50 and 60.

I was thinking his age would be a factor. I can't see him at Kane County at 23, unless they just want to keep a closer eye on him for some reason.

There's just this moment when you realize Alcantara has a better slash line, at a higher level, in a better pitcher's league, while playing a more difficult position, while being half a year younger.

Indeed. That's the argument. And it's a good one.

Javy singled 1 for his last 1

It did not go unnoticed that Javy finally broke his hitless streak in the very next game after a Kyle neg. You continue to amaze, dude.

Is the Southern League a better pitcher's league than the FSL? I always thought nothing came close to the FSL in terms of favoring pitchers.

I haven't looked up any historical data, but this season:

Southern League: 4.01 R/G, 3.59 ERA, 8.1 H/9, 3.5 BB/9, 7.5 K/9, 1.29 WHIP.

Florida State League: 4.21 R/G, 3.76 ERA, 8.8 H/9, 3.1 BB/9, 7.3 K/9, 1.33 WHIP.

Pretty similar with a slight edge towards the Southern League.
