Well holy crap. Never thought I'd see the day. Figured I'd give the news its own thread. Edited by ctcf

Yeah, I wonder if they worked out that partial buyout (on Stewart, I mean). Edited by David

Chicago Cubs ‏@Cubs 3m

The suspension of Ian Stewart was settled and upheld, and the #Cubs have granted him his unconditional release.

It seems that the suspension being upheld was that partial buyout. Stewart loses 100k or so for his antics gets to go play somewhere else.

Can't say I'm sad to see either go. Marmol hasn't been good for awhile and Stewart was never good as a Cub.

Thanks God they trimmed some fat today.

Maybe a stupid question, but why did we call up another left handed hitting outfielder? I thought Casey Colemam would get another shot in a relief role

They had been at 13 pitchers because of previous roster machinations, so this adds a needed bat to the bench.

EDIT: As for why Bogusevic instead of another bat like Sappelt or Lake, that's less clear.

I had read the other day the Cubs wanted to bring up a positional player by Tuesday. Bogusevic has been playing really well in Iowa and maybe the Cubs have seen enough of Coleman when you look at his MLB track record.

Maybe Bogusevic will inherit some "Ryan Sweeney" magic and rake. :P

City of Chicago could save time and $$ by folding Stanley Cup & Marmol DFA parades into one event. #cubs #blackhawks
