Question, for all the talk of wanting to get out of the Florida State league for Carolina, why don't we also consider/want a move to the California league? Seems they'd have even safer weather in that league than Carolina and Florida (obviously). Are the facilities worse? I think I've heard that it can be an extreme hitters league, but at least we'd rarely have to worry about guys missing 2-4 games a week to rain.

And if it's that extreme of a hitters league, would it be that hard to just keep pitchers that the FO thinks have a real chance at KC a bit longer and make them jump to AA and skip A+ all together?

I'm not sure on the facilities. Epstein had a bad experience in the Cal League, with Lancaster (which led to Boston buying the Salem franchise). While the Cal League is a hitter's league, it's not like all the parks are clear hitter's parks. It's just, there are some bad spots (Lancaster, High Desert come to mind) that tilt so much so to the pitchers. I've wondered about the Cal League due to it's proximity to Arizona. Curious about their player development contracts there and what the affiliation shuffle looks like.

That said, it's usually not prudent to have an entire level where you don't want to send your best arms to.

To be fair, Lancaster is easily the worst stadium in the California League (it's the rare game from mid-May on that doesn't have a 20 mph wind blowing out). High Desert is pretty bad too; the rest are just your standard hitter friendly ballparks. The northern half of the California League isn't as bad as the southern half.

I know Bakersfield has really poor facilities and they're trying to refurbish. Otherwise, the facilities are pretty good.

A lot of teams with California League affiliates have been doing exactly what Cubswin11 suggested: skipping their best pitching prospects straight to AA.

Happy Hendricks Day, you guys.

the fact that we're excited about kyle hendricks starting really shows how boring our minor league pitching is right now

Truer words were never spoken.

Boise gets started in a week. They'll at least have some interesting guys. Underwood for one. Would've had more if not for injuries to Conway and McNeil. When they get some of these college arms signed Boise becomes even more interesting. AZ will have two guys worth following in Daury Torrez and Erick Leal.

Andy Santana, Carlos Rodriguez and Angel Mejias also should be interesting to follow in Mesa. Hope between those five, the Cubs will have a meaningful Latin American arm to follow.

I'm honestly not sure what I get more excited about right now.. a good night from a couple of the top 5-6 guys or a MLB win.

I suppose it depends on which MLB guys were responsible for said win.

I think Castro getting on base a few times would trump all at this point.
