Is there any room left on the Alcantara bandwagon?

Glad to see a new member.

Can anyone tell me how his D is at both SS or 2B? I can't find much on that or I missed it whenever someone talks about it on here. I do like how his bat is progressing every year and making me a believer.

Strong enough arm with enough range to stay at SS. Needs to become more consistent.

If I wanted to troll, I'd ask what he ranked in BB/K.

But I don't, so I'll enjoy the great day.

I made sure to label him "Jo. Paniagua" when I typed in the box score in the OP.

Board owner or not, not cool.

In other news, Jeff Antigua has popped up on Iowa's roster.

He and Bowden just joined the I-Cubs in light of Blake Parker'a promotion and Alex Burnett being designated for assignment.

After last nights festivities, Javy's line up to .277/.319/.519 and 9 HR. .333/.396/.643 in his last 10.Enough to reclaim the NSBB #1 prospect crown? It wasn't long ago that there was talk of his falling out of the top 5. Certainly expect to see him on next weeks BA's Hot Sheet.

Certainly alleviates the pain of Rock Shoulders Bryan LaHair impression.

The talk of Baez out of the Cubs top 5 was pointless hand wringing from Kyle. On the other hand, Soler's peripherals (ISO, BB%, K%) show he's definitely a better prospect than Baez and it's going to take a lot more for Baez to supplant him.

All true, but as I recall Soler has always been touted as the better offensive prospect; possibly one of the best in baseball, but it was Javy's position that gave him the leg up. This being said, he's abundance of errors may hold him back, perhaps as low as 4 behind Soler, Almora, and Good Ole #2. Of course once he burns off that little wart, he may leapfrog his way back up in no time.

Walks, K rates, errors especially, be damned. Javy is still 1st for me. Yes, Soler has a better shot at becoming a cornerstone, but Baez still has more upside. When will that wear off for me? Likely around this time NEXT year, if there's been little progress made with his approach.

I have trouble envisioning any realistic scenario in which Baez consistently puts up more than a .320 OBP in the majors.

If that .320 OBP is attached to a .225 ISO on a middle infielder, it's still pretty darn valuable, but it still drags down his ceiling.

This type of race to make declarative statements about Baez's career is the worst type of analysis. I think we can have continued talk about a prospect without letting it be a recurring referendum on what his definitive ceiling/future performance is.

We would talk about the same thing with even a little bit of nuance, and maybe avoid silly statements like "there's no realistic scenario where Baez has a > .320 OBP at the MLB level".

Allowing for unrealistic scenarios *was* nuance. His skill set is that of a high power, low OBP guy. That's not likely to change.

you're assuming his power won't cause pitch-arounds, which is where a lot of dangerous hitters get their OBP, eventually. walks aren't completely dependent upon the hitter, you know.

I think he learned it from reading your Brett Jackson posts. I'm convinced that's where Kyle's latest bout of lazy obsession came from. But while your opinions are fluid from player to player, his are concrete. it's a sign of mental illness.
