As a reminder, the Dodgers are currently spending roughly the Cubs entire payroll on 8 starting pitchers(Kershaw/Greinke/Ryu/Billingsley/Lilly/Capuano/Beckett/Harang), and yet somehow have given 15% of their starts to Matt Magill and Stephen Fife.

Any chance we could get Lee, who is having a pretty nice year as a 21 year old in AA, as part of a deal?

As a secondary piece maybe, but I'd be disappointed if he was the headliner. I just don't see TOR potential that some others see.

Anyone think there's any way we could package some of our pieces to get both Pederson and Lee?

Side note: Pederson kind of looks like Michael Cera.

Going back to the Royals for a moment, they sent Kelvin Herrera to AAA today, because apparently anything that didn't happen in June 2013 doesn't matter. Duffy, Herrera, and someone like Michael Mariot, that's what I want from them. Wonder what it would take?

Between Jed and Theo, Cubs estimate they have talked to every GM in the majors within the past five days. #Sell

ABTY from yesterday:

Garza's trade value is exceedingly higher than I imagined... Three sources: 'Garza's not only the best available starting pitcher this deadline, he's likely the best available for the next three seasons...' I immediately brought up Price which they replied '...sure talent wise but he'll also cost double what Garza will both in prospects and in money while offering no better medicals or guaranteed future returns...' After a moment I asked with that being said, why would the Cubs deal him...answer: 'no fu--ing idea'

The explanation for why he's the best available, and not Price, makes no sense.

Poorly explained and makes more sense to say he's the better value of the two (not that I agree).

It comes to the needs of the buyers. To a team looking for a rental in which they don't have to mortgage their farm system, Garza's the best option. However, guys like Price or Gallardo may also be available, and any team would love to get them, there's a much smaller market due to the number of teams that can afford what they'd cost due to the years under team control and the amount of money left on the contract.

Gallardo's velocity is down to 90.6MPH on his fastball and he's striking out fewer batters than he ever has before. Any team willing to mortgage the future for him is taking an enormous risk.

3:52pm: The Dodgers are "on blitzkrieg" to acquire Ricky Nolasco from the Marlins, tweets Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle. As noted by Schulman, the matchup makes sense. The Dodgers can easily absorb the remaining $6MM or so on Nolasco's contract, and such a deal would prevent division rivals like the Padres and Giants from landing Nolasco.

Does Nolasco even have more value than Feldman at this point? Especially if Nolasco requires absorbing $6MM and Feldman doesn't?

@JonHeymanCBS: teams have asked the #cubs about james russell. they are not inclined to trade him, however.

Great reliever, great price, but I like to think that they'll at least entertain offers.

Only way I'll trade Russell is to get a Marshall type offer.

Marshall type offer or better. Marshall was entering a walk year, Russell won't hit free agency until 2016.

With Russell I'd want a legitimate top 100 talent and a near ready MLB ready talent with a pedigree who perhaps hasn't panned out so far. Something like Russell+Someone in the 15-25 range for Sonny Gray and Jemile Weeks.

I don't see the Dodgers giving us their 2 best prospects, no matter what we put together.

Seager is a better prospect than Pederson and Lee. There's an argument for Urias too (an argument that Jason Parks made).

Hmm... didn't know Russell was under team control for that long so it'll have to be better than Marshall's deal.

Ehh... I don't think I would do that for just Russell alone. It's close, but I don't think it's enough for me to pull the trigger.

The Dodgers REALLY like Lee. He was off limits last deadline from what I can remember. Considering the year he's having, I doubt thats changed. The Dodgers look to be trying to deal for high salaried guys, to lessen what they have to give up. I seriously doubt we're a good fit for them.

the reports i read on him from BA and BP suggest that he now projects as a #3 (hasn't shown the development people expected coming out of high school), but that he's got a good likelihood of getting there.

hilarious, and amazing that teams could get excited about a mediocre reliever who has a solid month or two. but please, sell that snake oil jed/theo.
