3 errors for Baez tonight, 17 on the season.

He's 1/2 with a BB in game 2 so far, i'll take it regardless of the D.

I love what Dillion Maples did tonight though. I believe Byron Buxton went 0-3 against him with a strikeout.

Yep, pretty good stuff at 5IP, 2 hits, 2 ER, 1BB : 5K. As long as he keeps those walks down the results should be solid.

In Iowa, Vitters is 3-3 with a 2B, Jackson 2-3 with a 2B, and Watkins 1-3 with an HR. Moscoso has K'd 8 through 5 with 0 BB, but 9 hits and 4 runs, 2 earned and was just lifted for a PH. there are 5 other guys playing as well.

But it's still realllly early. It keeps being said, but it's the truth. At this point in the game, if Baez were to go on a 6/6 stretch like Soler, he'd be hitting in the mid .270's and showing good power in a league hes young for. And you know hes got a few streaks in him at some point.

And he'd still have a .301 OBP and a massive K/BB ratio. Some BABIP isn't going to change that.

for me, soler has passed baez. the difference in their k/bb is just too ridiculous.

Baez is 20, the talent outweighs the stats right now. Yes, his season has been disappointing, but not altogether unsuspected either. Plenty of time to make adjustments. No, I have no idea if he will or not, but his status hasn't dropped that much at his age. Anyone obviously could have said he's going to have to make adjustments. Better its happening now than 2 years from now. We've got the coaching to do it, if he decides to listen-he'll still be elite.

Since 4/28 Austin Reed has pitched 10 innings and hasn't allowed a run. He's only allowed 5 hits, but has 6 BB and only 5 K.

My expectation that Soler become a productive big leaguer has reached a comical level of certainty.

Yeah, mine too. Probably unwise.

Also, after tonight's game, Brett Jackson has only struck out 5 times in 36 PA since his return from injury, 14% k rate.

Agreed. He just checks all the boxes. Great approach, all-around athleticism, no problems making contact, plenty of power potential.

This has got to be the best night our farm system has had to date, right?

Maples 5 IP, 5 K, 1 BB, 0 HR

Baez 3-for-9, 3b, BB, K

Soler 7-for-10, 2b, HR

Szczur 2-for-5 (starting to begrudgingly give him a little respect. The contact rates at AA bode well for him)

Villanueva 3-for-4, 2 2b

Watkins 1-for-4, HR, BB

Brett Jackson 4-for-5, 2b, 0 K (down to 26.4% this year. Still too dang high, I guess, but I want to have some optimism there)

Vitters 3-for-3, 2b

i've been really impressed with his eye and hit tool. i knew he had good power but the contact rate is really solid for someone with big-time power and good patience. between him and baez it would be really nice to get one star-level player.

Random and pointless exercise, but I wonder if Theo would have taken Baez in the 2011 draft.

While I have no problem with the pick itself, knowing now that Jose Fernandez was picked just 5 picks later kind of stings. But if anyone should be kicking themselves, it's the Brewers who picked RHP Tyler Jungmann just 2 slots prior.

-The past 10 days, Christian Villanueva's hitting .417/.463/.667, bringing his season totals to .259/.327/.400. Very nice to see considering where he was prior to the hot streak. On the less happy side of that coin, the past 10 days, Torreyes at .162/.304/.243.

-I'm wondering if next time we need a reliever called up they leapfrog Rosscup over the usual AAA suspects. He's been very effective ever since coming over. Either that or try stretching him back into a starter. Last time he was a full time starter was before his injury in 2011 and he put up a 2.54 ERA 1.149 WHIP and 19/50 BB/K in 49.2 IP. Could be worth re-visiting.

It's almost fitting that on his way out the door Hendry's selects The One Toolsy Hacker To Rule Them All.

Corey Patterson will forever hold that title.

At least Corey had a moderately respectable big league career. Ryan Harvey should trump Corey.

So we're already comparing Baez to epic-failures past?

ryan harvey hit a ball into a moving dump truck and owned a mansion in or near peoria, il. let's not act like his career wasn't a rousing success.
