Almora-Rizzo-Baez-Bryant-Soler-Castro-Castillo-Alcantara

almora doesn't draw any walks either. he can hit 7th. i want an obp monster hitting first. if i have to suffer through all these years of [expletive] garbage, i get to be a perfectionist when i imagine my perfect lineup at the other end of the tunnel.

You are going to have to imagine a current non -cub employee if that is your goal.

Since we were future fapping I took a look at the OFers who would be able via free agency in 2015. The best guys available are Colby Rasmus and Melky Cabrera. Really there aren't any impact bats that are 31 or under other than Hanley and Sandoval, and I'm not even sure Sandoval can be considered an impact bat anymore. Any offensive upgrades are going to have to come via trade.

What?

They don't have to be "impact bats" to be huge upgrades in our outfield.

And given what our infield could be, guys like that could easily be enough to make this offense pretty good.

Its gonna be awesome when Rizzo is our 5 hitter.

I fully expect Rizzo to still be our best hitter. Baez and Bryant aren't going to post above average rates in both walks and strikeouts to go along with their power like Rizzo can.

our lineup is going to need to be deep, so deep, it puts the national league to sleep if we are going to have a great offense with rizzo as the best hitter.

not really if he's a .400 OBP monster

edit -

for instance... i realize this lineup really was pretty deep, but it was also the best in the NL by a pretty good margin and was 2nd in baseball (which is pretty [expletive] good for an NL team)

Rizzo's RC+ of this year (even before today's game...so i'm sure it's higher now) of 141 would be 2nd to Micah Hoffpauir (lol) on the 2008 team.

Next highest semi-starter is Edmonds at 136 and then Aramis at 129 (if you count Fontenot as a regular, he was between them)

So yeah, if Rizzo is actually this guy like we're dreaming on over the last page, he could be the best hitter in a very good lineup with a couple of guys who could have great positional value like Baez and Castro.

We could be pretty good right now with a league average outfield.

But yeah, when you have guys like Castro and Baez in the middle infield (and let's say Castillo at C), it's a lot easier to put together a crazy deep put you to sleep lineup

I'm not real familiar with scaling WPA. How good is 2.1 in a full season?

all of this makes me so sad that we have 3 massive black holes in the OF (i guess that's being harsh on lake even if he is striking out 38% of the time)

can't you idiots at least luck into average or something

It's always something. That's why as awesome as Castro and Rizzo are being, I can't get excited about 2015. We'll fix the outfield and break something else, like we always do.

This rollover payroll thing better work. You could probably put together one and a half OF with the difference in Tanaka and Hammels (which is presumably what we left on the table) on a annual basis, but if they roll over a longer term it's like half an OF.

Lake could be fine if we get to the point that he is our 3rd OF, and batting 7 or 8. He seems like he can hit .250, and post .750 ops. Right now he has to be somewhere in the top 6 in the order, which can kill you when he is on a bad streak. If we can put together a lineup that allows Castillo/Lake to hit 7-8, Lake can be very tolerable.

Looking at playoff teams from last year, they all had regulars worse sometimes far worse that what we are getting from Lake. Jay was comparable, Upton was under .600 ops, The Reds LF situation was equally poor.

They could always do what Jesse Rogers suggested today and move Baez, Bryant and Castro to the outfield immediately.
