Probable Starters

Iowa: LHP Chris Rusin (28.1 IP, 4.75 FIP, 5.08 ERA, 14 K, 10 BB)

Tennessee: RHP Matt Loosen (8.2 IP, 2.4 FIP, 2.08 ERA, 11 K, 6 BB)

Daytona: RHP Ben Wells (25.2 IP, 4.06 FIP, 3.86 ERA, 15 K, 11 BB)

Kane County: RHP Pierce Johnson (18 IP, 2.37 FIP 3.40 ERA, 21 K, 6 BB)

Pretty interesting pitching day.

Pierce Johnson is the hottest Cubs pitching prospect at the moment. Wells has had an up and down year thus far but has shown flashes. Loosen is off to a decent start in AA and Rusin is either great or terrible. I'll be watching.

Any chance Almora plays Friday night? I will be there! Cannot wait!

Highly doubt that. He JUST started playing in EXST.

Garza is pitching for Tennessee today.

Probable starters updated. I assume he's expected to to 2 today.

Soler 1/3 with a double and an SB.

@KernanSean: Is Jorge Soler hustling now? He ran so hard back to second base that one of his shoes fell off. Then he stole third on the next pitch. #Cubs

Any word on velo?

FB 86-89, topped at 90, from reports I've seen. As a first rehab start, I think thats fine for his velo.

This is from Jason Cole:

@LoneStarDugout: @harrypav I think Garza is in Mississippi today. Keep in mind when I was there two weeks ago, the stadium gun was like four-five mph low.

Michael (Hanover, IN): Jim, what are your thoughts on Pierce Johnson?

Jim Callis: Best starting pitching prospect in the Cubs system (unless you think Arodys Vizcaino holds up in that role).

Johnson walks the leadoff hitter, picks him off and then strikes out the next two guys looking (one on a FB, one with his slider).

Thru 5, Jihnson has given up a hit, a walk, and K'd 4. 7-1 GO/FO.

He worked around a leadoff single in the 6th inning. Longest pro outing of his career.
