So for some reason I cannot watch videos today so I may be out on a limb here, but I do not think Boychuk should have been suspended. Of course of the Hawks would have announced Toews was out for game 6 I am sure he would have been. As bothersome as this may sound, what Boychuk did was really quite standard in NHL. It just looked worse because Toews' momentum made the hit all the more violent. Clearing the crease in this manner is common. You would probably really hate any Hawk dman who did not do these sort of things.

Okay, I can see videos now. Seeing the video only reinforces my stance. Changed positions, point of contact and all of that. In a more broad sense I do think the NHL does a really bad job at policing this kind of stuff.

I don't think you're out on a limb. I don't see anyone arguing strenuously that Boychuk should get a game.

Also, Q says Toews is likely to play and Canadian press are tweeting hunches that Bergeron will play also.

our captain and a young pillar on which the NHL is built has taken a series of violent shots to the upper body in the series. this is not simple "physical play", it's a constant attempt to injure, to cheat their way into the cup. this should be looked at. players like toews should not have to be the focus of dirty hits, this is real attack on the quality of play in the league itself. if the NHL wants to promote its stars, it needs to protect them. that means a lengthy suspension for hits like this, and any real attempts by goons and other animals to injure actual hockey players.

the worst part about this is that when goons like steve moore make intentionally dirty hits in an effort to cheat their way to victory, then get their dirty asses removed from hockey when an opposing player like bertuzzi makes retribution, it's the guys like bertuzzi that pay with draconian suspensions.

if the league doesn't want to police this kind of thing, then fine, let the players police it themselves. this means allowing violent retribution without suspension or fine.

how is "Big Game Kane" not a thing yet? the amount of huge goals he's had in the last 4 years is ridiculous

This is quite odd for Deadspin....here are some of the articles they've posted about this series:

snip

during the nba finals they've also been paying tom donaghy to write stuff for them. they are gross.

also, in the bruins/pens series they had a "Not Content Merely To Win, The Bruins Are Traumatizing Franchises" article. at least the comments sections are unanimously ripping them.

Julien doesn't even use the word "upper" anymore:

You don’t get precise info on injuries. Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said Toews has an upper-body injury. Bruins coach Claude Julien was even more opaque during Sunday’s off day.

“Body injury,” Julien told reporters.

The NHL & injuries is a fun exercise. After the finals, we'll supposedly find out what each team was really dealing with.

this, all of it. as i said in my earlier post, the hit on toews isn't against the rules, per se. but it sure as [expletive] should be. clearing the crease shouldn't involve trying to remove a player from the game. because in the end, it's a game, not street brawl between the channel 4 and channel 9 news teams. hit the body with your body and keep it clean. i would never want a hawks player to do that to the opponent, regardless of the situation, and have always said as much

I've heard that Bergeron may have a ruptured spleen. There's also speculation that it may be cracked/broken ribs. Either of those injuries keeps him out.

If Toes has a concussion and they let him play, the league really needs to reexamine at their protocol for head injuries. I'd hate to see Toews, or anyone for that matter, end up like this guy:

I've also heard it suggested, though, that if Toews had a concussion, they wouldn't have let him be out there on the ice at the end, celebrating with teammates and such.

He didn't look concussed and there have reports that he hung around after the game. It would obviously be great if he were able to play.

that's pretty hilarious

Weird, can't find the Snickers football "when people boo, it hurts" ad

Just rewatched the cup winning goal from 2010. Man, if the Hawks do win this thing, I really hope it's a bit more definitive than Kaner's goal was...lol.

Just watched the 2010 championship video. This is going to be a long day.

It's just my luck that for game 6, I'm traveling out for business. If I do catch some of the game, it will probably be late.

And then, if there's a game 7? I'm traveling *back* from business on Wednesday.

In 2010, I was on a plane when the Hawks won it.

And I don't really travel that much.

Toews said Boychuk hit was one of the hits that took him out in Game 5, and that he wanted to return. Coaches being "cautious." #Blackhawks

I've basically seen just the 3rd period/OT of every game due to my work schedule. Luckily, none if the games were definitively over yet when I got home

I guarantee you nobody wants a clean winning goal more than Doc Emrick. I'll never forget him saying the puck is "rattling around" as it sits in the net and Kane starts to celebrate.

If flight delays cause me to miss this game, and it's heading that way already, I will be that angry Chinese lady at the airport.
