Hey guys, I'm planning on getting tickets to the Iowa Cubs game on Sunday, April 19th. I coach HS Softball so Sunday is really the only day I could make it out to Iowa for a game.

Do you guys expect KB will still be in Iowa on April 19th? That is there 11th game of the year and I've read they technically only need 9 games to get the extra year of control?

He will likely still be in Iowa for that game. Technically, yes, Bryant could come up to Chicago on that Friday, April 17th vs. the Padres to meet the extra year of control rules to the T. However, Theo has usually brought up top prospects on the road to save with some of the circus, so if that is the course they choose, the Sunday, April 19th game could be KBs last game in the minors.

That being said, they theoretically could just not have him play in Iowa that day and say he is flying to Pittsburgh to meet the MLB team for Monday's game.

I don't think anyone can tell you for certain. One of the days that it could make sense for Bryant to come up would be on April 20th, since it's the start of a road trip and they've tried to break in prospects on the road. Whether that means Bryant would play the day before or maybe leave early I'm not sure, and of course there's the chance he might already be up by the 19th or they wait until a few days after too.

#Cubs @BaseballAmerica #5 Prospect @CEdwardsSBS to work out of the bullpen to start season for @smokiesbaseball Was a starter 2014

Disappointing.

The Cubs could be fast-tracking C.J. Edwards toward Wrigley Field. That’s at least the positive spin or the aggressive timeline after the team ticketed Edwards for Double-A Tennessee’s bullpen.

General manager Jed Hoyer also indicated the Cubs need to monitor Edwards’ workload after a right shoulder strain limited him to 53.2 innings last season. The organization has also debated long-term questions about Edwards’ 6-foot-3, 170-pound frame (according to this year’s media guide).

“There’s no doubt he showed us this spring that he can really be a weapon for us,” Hoyer said Wednesday. “(We’ll) start him out in some shorter outings. That way, as you get into the summer, you still have some innings left.

“As opposed to kind of burning up all those innings in April, and feeling like now all of a sudden when you’re in a pennant race – and you need a guy in the big leagues – you’ve already used up those bullets.”

Edwards has worked almost exclusively as a starter in the minors – going 14-6 with a 1.86 ERA and 294 strikeouts in 237 innings – but the Cubs would also like to see how his electric stuff plays in shorter bursts.

“Certainly, I think there’s maybe a quicker path for him to the big leagues as a reliever,” Hoyer said. “We certainly in no way, shape or form have given up on him as a starter. But we also realize we probably have to manage his innings a little bit this year.

“Starting off in that role kind of allows us to do that. (And) then we can make an assessment as we get into the year, (figure out) which way we want to go with it.”

Because I was bored as [expletive] late last night, I found myself browsing AAA rosters and came across a Where are they know of the prospects we cared about once upon a time:

Alberto Cabrera: Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers.) I'm still not sure why we let him go, but it is what it is.

Rafael Dolis: Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers) Now that I think of it, I kind of-sort of remember sending him to Detroit.

Donnie Veal: Gwinnett Braves (Braves)

AJ Morris: Indianapolis Indians (Pirates.) Ok, I don't know if anyone ever really cared about this guy, but I remember him being considered a decent throw in when we got him from the Nats. He's team mates with none other than Chris Volstad.

Chris Carpenter: Louisville Bats (Reds) I thought he'd dropped off the map.

Rich Hill: Syracuse Chiefs (Nats) Well bless his heart. I still remember Lou virtually dragging him off the mound, and knowing it was the last we'd seen of 'ol One Pitch Rich. Also on the Mud Hens: Ian Stewart.

Ronny Cedeno: Sacramento River Cats (Giants) He's such a distant memory that I had to check to make sure it wasn't Ronny Cedeno Jr.

Brett Jackson: Sac River Cats (Giants) If not for our current crop of awesomeness, this one would still sting.

Scott Moore: Memphis Red Birds (Cards) I can't remember if we ever really cared about this one, so much as I'm shocked that he's still Crash Davising around.

Josh Vitters: Nowhere? Apparently the Rockies released him 3/31. Kind of sad, really. Someone will scoop him up.

So Almora is at .306/.343/.355 with a 6.9% BB rate, 6.9% K rate, and .048 ISO.

Approach seems to be improving. Would be nice if he'd swing harder when he does swing and sacrifice a little contact for more power.

On how Kyle Schwarber has looked defensively

“It’s been a great year of development for him. And this is no knock on anyone that was at Indiana but just what he had to do receiving wise to catch what we feel is at the Major League level in time, he’s worked his tail off. You see it every single day now. When he was in big league camp he was catching [Jake] Arrieta and all of those guys there. He’s got tremendous hands and he’s moving very well behind the plate. Last night he had a sub-2 throwing time on a runner down to second base. So the process has been great with him. I know I can speak for all of us in the organization, we feel very confident that he is going to be able to catch in the Major Leagues and be a force at the plate.”

Astros designated INF Ronald Torreyes for assignment.

The move clears a spot for Preston Tucker on the 40-man roster. The 22-year-old Torreyes produced a .298/.345/.376 batting line in 126 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City last season, but he was hitting just .200 with a .426 OPS across his first 19 games this season.
