On Monday, Sacramento overcame those long odds when an NBA ownership committee studying the situation unanimously voted against relocating the Kings. A formal vote of all 30 owners is scheduled for May 13 but sources told ESPN.com the full body is expected to ratify the recommendation of the 12 owners from the relocation and finance committees.

Suck it, Seattle.

is it sad that i actually thought for a second that Sacramento already lost their team and Seattle and Sacramento were the finalists for an expansion team?

if i'd had to guess which of the four major sports would have an active athlete come out first, i probably would have guessed hockey. pretty sure basketball would've been my last guess, due to the smaller roster size and high numbers of black american athletes.

Why hockey? I don't follow the sport so I'm actually curious.

hockey players usually seem a little more honest and less full of mindless platitudes than any other sport, i'd guess.

I dunno, there's always the toothless tough guy act in hockey

no, hockey players are pretty genuinely tough, it's not an act. they say and do what they want and it gets them into fights sometimes.

and holy [expletive] Chris Broussard is a [expletive] psycho.

i think another reason hockey could be seen as more likely to have an openly gay player is due to the lack of blacks. there is a perception that it's a major taboo in black north american culture. personally, i've had a couple of gay black friends and neither of them had any straight black friends, so i might agree with that perception.

Yeah, the bold part is something I touched on earlier when cubbyvirus was trying ti minimize this as much as possible. Black male celebrities/public figures coming out as gay just does not happen all that often.

more scandinavians and canadians, where gay marriage is not considered nearly as controversial as in the u.s. also don't think that machismo is as great in hockey and baseball as in basketball and football.

perfect example of some bigoted idiot letting his mask slip when he writes "it's a choice." aha, now we get it.

a lot of conservatives gleefully love to point out that prop 8 would have failed in california if blacks hadn't voted at a rate of almost 70% in favor.

he bashes the "hero worship" of jason collins but then goes on to retweet something about how the real heroes are the soldiers, police, firefighters, etc. people who get paid to do a job that involves some level of danger. jason collins coming out of the closet can't possibly have a positive impact on his ability to keep playing basketball in the nba, and it may hurt him if teams think it will be a headache in the locker room. kind of makes me laugh that tim brando says that someone doing something that no male professional athlete in basketball, football, baseball or hockey has ever done is not brave or heroic, but meanwhile the millions of people who serve as soldiers, paramedics, police officers, firefighters, etc are true heroes.

Man, after Googling him, I realized where I remembered Ben Shapiro from. Dude created quite the controversy at UCLA with idiotic/racist comments about Muslims and was pissed the school paper wouldn't print them.
