Brett's article speculating on the reasons for Junior Lake's surprisingly good walk rate (17%) in the DWL

http://www.bleachernation.com/2015/01/15/junior-lake-apparently-made-some-changes-in-the-dwl-and-hes-been-a-walk-machine/

Apparently he's grown 3-4 inches since 2011?

dafuq?

is he related to luol deng?

based on brett's recollection of media guide listings, which are notoriously inaccurate.

It has been noted in other places, as well.

I usually have the video stream going while I work each day. If it's buffering a lot or being weird, refreshing usually clears it...for a bit.

Brandon why are you arguing with dumb ass Sox fans on a radio stream chat?

HAHA...I argue with dumb people on there quite a bit. I have no justification for it.

As it has been foretold. Stuck hoping for some spring training attrition around the league, cuz no one values Castillo much more the myriad other options.

I wonder though, if it really is possible we take 3 catchers. It's not like we're overflowing with obvious bench options right now. Castillo might just wind up our best option as RH PH, preferable to paying $2.1M for him to just go away.

Unlikely, I know, but not impossible. And of course, maybe one of our guys gets injured.

10 games at 1B against tough LHP to spell Rizzo, another 15-25 at catcher to keep Montero fresh and get a platoon advantage, 5 more at DH, a bunch of PH opportunities, you can get to 200 PAs without too much trouble, and it doesn't really take away from elsewhere because of how much flexibility the rest of the position players have.

That said, I don't think that's the *plan*.

This offseason kicked off so amazingly awesome. And then...

Whatever. I want them to go balls out for 2015, and it sure seemed like they were going that way and I just don't have faith in the nearly all prospect team that they seem to more and more be betting on.

I don't think anyone is asking for anything too outrageous; we were getting word/rumors they wanted another big starter and they wanted a significant OF player. Instead we're probably just getting 3 catchers and Chris Denorfia. That's boring as [expletive].

They will be fine in the pitching department, but they will have a devil of a time scoring runs. They needed an impact bat that could man LF for a year or two until Schwarber or McKinney move up the ladder. Hopefully they can convince Rasmus to fire his papa and play for the Cubs.

If they need pitching and they are still in it in July expect a big trade for Price or someone similar.

Theo mentioned today they view Alcantara as a utility type more than as a CF. thinks he'll fill in at quite a few spots, which does lend to them still actively pursuing a CF.

This team as presently constructed projects to win 83-84 games with pretty conservative projections on the young players. Projections tend to cluster around the middle and that's good for like top 5 in the NL (which would be a playoff spot). I want them to add some more wins at the margins if they can, sure, but I don't really have a problem with it if they go into the season with mostly the current roster (though I assume and hope Castillo will end up being dealt off, Theo's obvious comment aside).

Again, that's with conservative projections for prospects/young players. There's also a lot of upside as a result of those conservative projections.

Kris Bryant says hello.

Bryant in LF and Valbuena at 3B is the right way and the way we'll win the most games.

There's still a number of moves or non-moves that are questionable; Aoki going for pennies is just the most recent. Maybe he's broken down or something, but the guy gets on base and even if the young players pan out there's not a lot of patience to go around. Why not take a shot for an OF with a snazzy OBP that can be had for super cheap?

And I am meatball as hell; conservative estimates can go [expletive] themselves. They're projected at 83-85 wins? So [expletive] what; blow that [expletive] out of the water. Act like swaggering wolf-beasts savaging the land and devouring all they see.
