It's 190 days until the next meaningful Cubs game and yet it feels like 1900 days.

In general or specifically for the Cubs? I didn't think there'd be much besides a couple of pitcher signings and some scattered filler (if that's even necessary); I'd like to see them pull of a big trade but I'm not holding my breath.

Considering the inability to make moves for over a month now you shouldn't even think about holding your breath.

Well...this is a thing that was posted on the internet...so...yeah...

Cleveland Indians sources say the club's bosses are worried they might lose manager Terry Francona, who did such a good job with the team the last two seasons. Francona has some health issues, I'm told, and his close friendship with Chicago Cubs General Manager Theo Epstein might lure him to that club. The Cubs farm system is said to finally be ready to bear fruit.

I was referring to said big pitchers and maybe a position player like Martin.

I don't really expect any big trade nor do I really want one barring the obvious.

Cubs season in quotes...tons of quotes, I pasted a few of my favs...

“Randy Wells one time asked (Sori) if he had change for a hundred. He just turned to him with a straight face and said: ‘Hundreds are change.’ I think he dropped a ‘babe’ in there. That was always one of my favorites.” — reliever James Russell, on Soriano’s larger-than-life personality, April 16.

“That’s one of the things that got me here when I was talking to Dale before I signed. He told me it was going to be this year. Obviously, the rooftops and all those things delayed it. But we did get a new carpet this year, so at least I got some parts of the renovations.” — pitcher Carlos Villanueva, May 22.

“We certainly hope that this is the last year that we’ll be obvious sellers at the trade deadline.” — Epstein, July 5.

“My brother, Mike, led by example. Everything I was about to do on and off the field, he had already done. I was very fortunate to have a brother that I could learn from. He even taught me a little bit about science. It has to do with a little methane and a lighter, and I still get a huge kick out of it today.” — Greg Maddux, cracking everyone up with his Hall of Fame induction speech, July 27.

“People don’t really think about it here. One of our strengths is sometimes our lack of intelligence when it comes to what’s going on in the baseball world.” — catcher John Baker, blocking out the constant trade rumors, July 28.

“I got beer. I got chocolate milk. I got hair gel. I got shampoo. I got body wash. And then I got some more beer. It was great. Best shower I’ve ever taken.” — Baker, after pitching the 16th inning and scoring the game-winning run to beat the Rockies in the longest game in franchise history, July 29-30.

“We didn’t buy the party. We bought the hangover.” — Ricketts, speaking with The New York Times for a long profile published Sept. 19.

Theo is supposed to give a state of the cubs end of season thing at noon. Heard it mentioned on the Score.

This is the most directly I've seen Theo talk about contending next season.

That was less rage-inducing than most of his interviews, but he's still being very careful to leave himself the 2016 "two-offseason" out.

That's what smart people do when they say stuff.

Smart people can be running baseball teams in bad ways.

Gotta love the balls on Tommy Boy.

Explain

Saying they bought the hangover, and not the party, implying he's been the responsible one cleaning up everybody else's mess and making things right after the wild and crazy MacPhail, McDonough, Hendry and Kenney era.

There was a big NYT feature on the Ricketts family recently and a person I work with, who has a personal history with Ricketts, told me it was very off putting.

Rick Telander is so so dumb oh my god

He never sounds like he understands anything that is being said at any press conference

Posted

For Kyle:

He said the expectation is for Javy to be at 2B and basically that they'll deal with some growing pains rather than panic if he's still struggling. Then Telander was dumb.

Yes, what goony said. Also, they pretty much let Zell make the hangover hurt more than it had to hurt. I'm tired of the excuses.

Sounds like Russell (in a non-Javy bust world) is slated for 3B rather than SS.

Said they'll have him work some at 2nd and 3rd in spring.
