Good, he never should've been sent down to begin with.

Matt Thornton dealt for Brandon Jacobs. Thornton has a 6 mill option next year and will be 37. Jacobs began the season as a guy hanging around a loaded Red Sox top 10 or so. Struggled a bit this year. That said, Russell should definitely bring back more than this, more team control and better stats as well. White Sox did decently though, if Russell winds up getting dealt, I think we'll all be happy with the return.

excellent. everyone bookmark the link for future use.

A. No

B. Sure

C. Depends on age and how far removed from his year of limited success.

And these are pretty much the types of players that GM's tend to take out fliers on when they're available for next to nothing and stock AAA with.

Lottery tickets are quite different in that they're young and raw with high potential.

Gillespie seems like a nice stopgap lefty masher, especially since there aren't any real options in Iowa and we're currently having to play at least one LH OF we picked up off waivers this year(Sweeney, Borbon, Bogusevic) against LHP.

Which one of these does Jair fall under?

27 year old one time front end starters who it wouldn't hurt to see if our pitching coach can help fix if the cost is next to nothing. Give me an entire filing cabinet full of fliers on those, and if one happens to work out it's a huge win.

weakest "front ever starter" ever, maybe

yeah i guess he was a front end starter if you look only at his ERA for one or two seasons and completely ignore his strikeout rate and other peripherals, in addition to his rather ordinary stuff.

I'm talking a no risk pick up. After Garza's gone, there's going to be a rotation opening. If Villanueva is traded that makes two. I'd at least prefer giving Bosio a chance to work with Jurrjens than cycling through another round of Germanos, Berkens, and whomever else.

Baker and Arrieta say hi.

Also, that's exactly what Jurrjens is, another Germano type.
