I wonder how much longer our 2nd pairing will look this good. That and the third line make me nervous.

Still, I should be happy. They have so much talent from 1-6 and on the first pairing. Makes everyone else look bad.

PHILADELPHIA — Bob Clarke needed a moment to think Tuesday when asked to share his favorite memory from the Flyers’ record 35-game unbeaten streak in 1979-80. The Hall of Famer racked his brain to come up with something for a few seconds, then finally blurted out the truth.

“Ah, I don’t know if I have a memory from the streak,” said Clarke, now 63 and a Flyers senior VP. “Obviously, I was proud of being part of it because it was an impressive statistic for an NHL team to go that long without getting beat. But it wasn’t a big deal in my career. Those kinds of things don’t come close to winning a Stanley Cup.”

Clarke, who captained the Flyers’ 1974 and 1975 championship teams, has noticed the 2012-13 Chicago Blackhawks’ record-setting run to begin a season — 16 victories and three shootout losses in 19 games so far.

“I know what the Blackhawks are doing,” he said. “It’s impressive.”

The second pairing being this good shouldn't really be that much of a surprise. From a statistical standpoint, last season Hjammer was a lot better than the eye test would suggest. Oduya has been nothing but solid during the regular season. The big difference is that they are getting a lot more help from the forwards in their own zone than they did last year.

Are you talking about the 3rd pairing making you nervous Leddy- Roszival/Brookbank or the 3rd line of Shaw Bickell and Stahlberg?

The 3rd line has been good to very good all year. As far as the 3rd pairing goes, they're probably among the league's best. I'm not sure how or where to verify but the Hawks might be the only team where Leddy is a 3rd pairing guy.

The only thing that worries me about the third pairing is that both Roszival and Leddy are offensive oriented players. Roszival's numbers are pretty amazing for the amount of games he's played, but he's been caught out of position on defense way too much for my liking.

I still look at the lines and think moving Kruger up to 2C, Bolland back down to 3C, and Shaw to 4C would perform better, but at this point it's pretty foolish to argue with the results.

barry rozner attacks!

Defense isn't fun, it isn't flashy, and it doesn't elicit a standing ovation.

No, the spin-o-rama gets you publicity, lifts people out of their seats and lights up Twitter.

All defense does is win you games — and Stanley Cups.

ugh what a hack

umm actually, fans in hockey do cheer good defense. often.

also, no, defense does not win you games. it can only prevent you from losing.

Rozner is the only one that can see the beauty of defense.

Valid point. I wish Leddy would join the attack more and Roszival less. That may be the one aspect of Brookbank's game that is better. He'll pretty much stay at home- though he won't always look good doing it.

If you do that, I'd also swap Sharp and Saad on their respective lines. That balances out the offense- defense of the top lines better. Saad becomes the net presence guy for the second line while Kruger and Kane make plays.

In fact, I'd like to see that move even if Bolland does go back to the 2nd line.

bolland is the only player on the team besides brookbank to have a negative rating. he's -3. even carcillo is +3

So, the Blues haven't played since Saturday. And so Hitchcock apparently ran them through some really hard practice on Tuesday, and somehow Andy McDonald and Alex Steen both got hurt during that practice. McDonald ends up on the IR. Steen is day to day, and it's possible he plays tonight. In any case, bravo Hitchcock.

[McDonald] collided with teammate Vladimir Sobotka and went down, writhing in pain. He was helped off the ice to the bench, putting no weight on his left leg. After sitting briefly on the bench, he limped under his own power to the locker room.

In the sequence just prior, Steen was injured during a battle scrum, which saw his helmet pop off. He also went to the bench before eventually heading off to the locker room.

The action picked up in the battle drill.

"They were having a blast," Hitchcock said. "It was last goal won."

One team had scored the last goal prior to McDonald's injury, but Hitchcocked waved it off. Play continued.

"The only thing looking back on it, maybe I should have given those guys the legal goal," Hitchcock said. "It was illegal ... there was no goalie in the net."

Hitchcock is a psycho.

Sounds like Bollig is in tonight. Which is nice since he's a St. Louis kid.

And suggests Q expects a rough game.
