Yeah they just put the game in the freezer for the first 14 minutes or so of the 3rd and finally Anaheim was able to break through for a few minutes of sustained pressure before the goal. These things are going to happen, but the problem is the completely took their foot off the gas. There's a balance there between being aggressive and being overly aggressive, they just didn't find it last night.

I'd still rather be a fan of this team right now that any other in the league.

Agreed. Even on a bad night they still got a point. I love seeing Leddy getting involved on the offense and it was great to see Saad rewarded with a goal. Bickell also had a really good game.

Yeah I agree with Pat and Eddie that Bickell's hit on Getzlaf was huge, and not only because it led to the PP goal.

One other thing I've noticed over the last few days. Frolik deserves a lot of credit for embracing his fourth line role. He's never going to crush people but he's making a real effort to throw some hits and forecheck hard. He and Kruger have made that line really solid. Bollig was a waste of space last night. Reinforces that Carcillo should just slide right in to that wing when he returns. He can make that line even better. Fortunately Saad has played so well he has made it impossible for Q (we hope) to put Carcillo back on that top line.

It's just a little weird to become complacent with a 1 goal lead. Oh well.

OK, I love watching hockey but I am faaaaaaaaar from an expert so don't kill me if this is a dumb question. Why does Q never use Hossa in shootouts?

I didn't mind Saad getting a chance, but I agree with you. Maybe because Hoss is more of a shooter than a deker.

This was a question brought up on CSN's postgame show. I think they said Hoss was 14-42 in his career which is 33%, well below Kane and Toews, but still not a terrible number for a 3rd shooter (I think....shootout statistics are hard to find). I honestly have no idea if there is a skillset for shootouts, or if there is if it differs from overall skillset. I'm sure there's some sort of link, otherwise you'd find more 4th line players who randomly have a skill for shootouts. (there's a few I think)

Oh they were talking on NHL Radio this morning about an apparently uproar in Canadian social media and on TSN about Sharp drawing that OT penalty by pulling the stick up to whack himself in the face. Like "this guy will do anything to help his team win" sort of thing. Pretty funny because that's the way it looked at first to me also.

That question isn't dumb at all. In fact a lot of people would like to know the answer. MY guess is that Hossa must not like doing it.

Anybody else laugh at the guy on Anaheim that just fell on his face randomly while waiting for the faceoff?

It looked like he had been tripped. That was pretty weird

there are some defensemen who do shootouts. Kris Letang does I think and I am sure there are more.

ESPN Chicago‏@ESPNChiHawks

Today's lines have been Hossa-Toews-Saad, Sharp-Bolland-Kane, Bickell-Shaw-Stalberg, Frolik-Kruger-Bollig. Carcillo & Mayers on a 5th line.

Good, looks like Q knows he can't mess with the top three lines right now.

Although I wonder what it would take to get O'Reilly from Colorado. He would look real pretty as the second line center.

All anyone has to do is sign him to an offer sheet. He has turned down 3.5 a year and wants 5 yr 25 mill. My guess is if you sign him to that, the Avs would just take the picks. Personally I do not think he is worth that and 3.5 for 2 yrs was a fair deal.

Also, the Avs are probably not trading his rights to a Western team. They were very mad last year when Tampa flipped Quincey to Detroit.

Oh yeah he hasn't earned 5/25. He saw what happened to Subban and doesn't want to take that medicine.

But he is a very good player in a league without a ton of solid centers.

Looks like Hossa's going to be in the shootout lineup: http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/7349

The headline made it seem like it was Carcillo on the shoot out- seems like a lot of other teams have some 4th line guy on the shoot out. If Hossa can't be any better than Sharp, I'd like them to see them pick a name out of a hat. Or maybe the fans could vote by applause.

Well crap.

When the Chicago Blackhawks took the ice at United Center in preparation for their game against the San Jose Sharks on Friday night, goaltender Corey Crawford was not among them.

Then the Hawks announced they had recalled netminder Henrik Karlsson from Rockford of the AHL. Karlsson will serve as backup to Ray Emery when the Hawks face San Jose.

There's no word yet as to whether Crawford is injured, but more will be known when Quenneville addresses the media following Friday's morning skate.

Spoke with Crawford briefly yesterday, about his passion for old muscle cars, as he left the UC. Seemed fine. Guessing illness? #Blackhawks

Hope so.

Yeah, that'd be a relief if that's the case.

Crawford took a big hit late against Ducks. Q: "I don't know if it's that or practice. I don't know if it's a defining blow." #Blackhawks

I hope it's not a concussion from that play where he got run over by I think Ryan.

Crawford has an "upper body injury".

Q asked if he could play on Sunday...."We'll see."

Well I suppose upper body could be a head cold.
