Well here it is! Will the Bears end Lovies tenure? Will they be a rare 10 win team that misses the playoffs? Will they squeak into the playoffs?

Honestly, expecting a win this week followed by a Calvin Johnson explosion + offensive line implosion induced season finale.

Things that are going through my head today:

If the Bears fire Lovie, will Urlacher retire?

If the Bears fire Lovie, will they try to hire an offensive minded HC to over-compensate for the offensive struggles?

I'd rather keep Lovie than hire any available ex-head coaches.

Oh, and as of right now, the Bears would pick 20th in the draft. It's possible for us to get as high as 12th if we lose out and everything goes "right". Most likely though, 18th is probably the most realistic "best" we could do.

Really? Over Cowher?

Yes. Not interested.

“Yesterday’s game was a must-game for the NFC North championship, but besides that, it wasn’t a must-game with what can happen for our season,” Smith said at his press conference on Monday. “This week it is a must game.”

Care to elaborate? I think he was a pretty good coach. Would you rather have Nick Saban? Jon Gruden? Bruce Arians? Andy Reid? Chip Kelley?

EDIT: Mike McCoy from Denver?

Arians and Kelley are both interesting to me. Reid, nooooooo. Cowher...meh. He just doesn't seem like much of a change from Live. Yeah, he yells more and gets mad face more.

I want an offensive coach. This is an offensive league. I want a real offense, with some creativity.

Dan Bernstein just made a pretty funny analogy.

The Bears are like the guy that has the video game controller but doesn't know what all the buttons do. "But I hit pass!"

Cowher's offense's were a hell of a lot better than any Lovie oversaw. Cowher may have been a defensive coach with a tough guy attitude but like Belichik he realized you had to throw to win in this league, a decade before Lovie figured that out. He wouldn't be my top choice, but he and Gruden would clearly be better options than keeping Lovie around.

I want an offensive coach too, but Chip Kelley strikes me as the kind of college coach who will have a very difficult time adapting his system to the pros, and Cutler would probably hate him. Arians would be a much better fit, and I'm intrigued by McCoy. I'd also poach whoever I could from GB.

Ok, I'm probably overstating it. I just want more dramatic change than Cowher and Gruden.

Yeah, I don't think that Kelley would want to come here anyway.

Yeah, but what if dramatic change means a pretty complete teardown and rebuild?

How would Lovie to Cowher or Gruden not be dramatic change? There aren't a ton of obvious young coaching stars on the rise. Gruden has pretty much everything on resume a Bears fan should want to see in his next coach. And he's not even 50 yet. I think Gruden could do great things with Cutler.

I'd be weary of hiring a guy out of college. I'd rather a guy like Cowher or Gruden with a history of NFL success.

That said, at this point I'd take just about anyone.

On this game:

Bears 24

Cardinals 10

They'll do enough to win this one, the Cardinals just beat a team that gave up awhile back. Big deal. It's been bad for the Bears, but not this bad.
