I went Almora. Funny, I liked the pick (made the comment that I wouldn't mind taking him over Correa), but don't know if I love Almora, and think he got a bit over-hyped post-draft. That said ... I'm not going to read too much into Boise numbers. Almora's broad based ability in centerfield and his high, albeit not Soler level, offensive potential just gets enough of a tiny edge.

I can buy Soler, as his offensive ceiling is higher, and he has the potential to be an elite RF. Add in that he's physically more developed, and potentially could move faster, and there's a lot to like. But I guess, when drawing the slim lines, I'm a bit bothered by reports on his swing (although I said elsewhere that I think he could zoom up the ladder, but need extra time in the upper levels).

Given how close the voting is, should this be a "2a and 2b" situation?

It's a definite option, but let's give it some more time. Though I may change the amount of time for voting from three days to either 1 or 2 for future votes.

If in 3 days it's a tie between Almora and Soler I assume DABUM gets the deciding vote? Or do we bring in Meph?

I'll email Callis to break the tie. :D

Fair enough, that works too! Will you even have a vote for #3? Or will the loser between Almora/Soler be the de facto #3? I know there was some Vizcaino support for #2, but the Soler/Almora voting is clearly overwhelming.

I always think Shane Victorino when I think about what Almora could become. If all goes perfectly he may have a bit more power than Victorino and hit for slightly better average, but I think that's the basic player mold.

flyin' Hawaiian has/had more speed than Almora.

What if everyone voting for Soler would pick Vizcaino over Almora for #3? It's not likely, but it is worth voting.

soler, because there's no such thing as a prospect with a high floor

Certainly not with a teenager who has never played full season ball.

Soler over Almora for me. He has shown he is more advanced in his hitting approach and appears to be advancing faster through the lower levels. You can't deny the huge power advantage. I love the fact that there is no consensus here at number two. That confirms (in my mind at least) that we have more talent in the system than in past years. Kudos and continued success to the new front office.

I'm pretty excited about what these lists are going to look like when you add another year of development from the top guys (hopefully none of the top 3-4 take a very big step back), add a #2 IFA class and a #2 draft class, with none of the current top guys outside of Vizcaino being anywhere near graduating.

That's obviously assuming nobody gets traded too, but it could be a pretty ridiculous system at the lower and mid levels by then.

In the last two years, or even a little less:

1) We've graduated some nice crops of Dominican teenagers to the domestic leagues

2) Committed more than $50 million to IFA prospects

3) Had the 2011 overslot draft explosion, and that draft class had a great first full year as pros

4) Had the No. 6 pick in the draft and two comp picks in 2012

5) Traded at least half a dozen big leaguers for prospects

That kind of resource commitment to the farm system is staggering. It should darn well be pretty elite after adding a No. 2 overall pick.

Soler's raw power is tremendous. I saw Soler a couple of times in person and he has easy bat speed and has a solid approach at the plate and works counts. Soler shows a plus arm and runs ok for a right fielder. He has a few mechanical hitches that could limit his ability to stay inside quality stuff but overall he has too much upside to overlook.
