my stupid phone died and then my backup phone died shortly after. i have been sans phone for a few weeks now and it SUCKS. all these idiots who say it is freeing or great to not have a phone are the worst. not having a phone is only freeing if you are a crazy person who is addicted to it. i am a normal person who uses the phone the right amount so it is bad to lose it.

ANYWAY i am getting a new phone sunday and i don't want it to die. i am a little afraid that my phone died because i carried it around in my pocket all the time. the bottom thing (dock connector) was always kind lint-y.

HELP ME DECIDE WHAT TO DO

I have carried my phones in my pants pocket for 6 years. 2 of them died, but both were due to overwhelming water exposure (1 drop, 1 me getting rained on like crazy on assignment last week). I think you're good.

I can't imagine pocket lint kills the phone, unless you spend your days at the beach and your pockets have more than normal lint in them. I've never had a phone die on me, but my first iphone slowly got slower and slower and would hold the charge less and less. I think it's about how little effort I put in to optimizing its usage rather than lint. I did drop an old phone in a lake once, jumped in and got it out. The 6 stopped working but that's it. Left the same one outside overnight during a storm in the sand and woke up to the sound of the vibration. After drying it out the thing worked fine.

Lint can't kill anything but the weakest phone.

I typically carry it in a pocket in my camera bag, which goes everywhere with me. I usually don't carry it in a pants pocket anymore for a number of reasons (lint, scratches from keys/wallet/etc., paranoia about SAR/RF absorption, it falling out when I pull other stuff from my pocket). Yeah, I won't put it in a pocket with anything else. Keys/money go in one and phone gets its own. Also not afraid of frying my nuts since I already have 2 kids and probably can't handle/afford anymore.

i am typically keys/chapstick in front right, phone in front left, wallet in back right.

Almost exactly opposite. Keys and money clip in front left. Wallet in back left. Phone in front right (sometimes back right but always right). You left sided phone carriers are crazy. Do you check your phone with your left hand too, you freaks?

I was the same, but I've been buttwallet-free for over a decade. I'll never go back.

I can't imagine putting my wallet in my back pocket. If anything I'll put a metrocard in there, or a couple bucks. But I do not think the wallet allows me to effectively show off my thunder.

The lint will definitely short out your phone. Mine would keep saying it was connected to the charger, even when miles away, and would turn off on its own. I just dealt with it a month or so ago, and realized its a common problem in my type of phone, exacerbated by the fact they don't have covers for the charger connection dock. I air dusted it and used a paperclip as lightly as I could to clear off the metal pins and it fixed it right up.

Which is stupid because I talk on my phone with my left hand, despite being right-handed. Meh. I play with it a lot in my right hand, though.
