Brett at Bleacher Nation is saying he's hearing chatter about a front office departure. He won't say who, and doesn't seem 100% confident in his scoop.

But we're out of the playoffs, let's have some fun and speculate anyways.

I'll say Randy Bush as Epstein gets rid of the last remnants of the Hendry-era.

Hm, I wonder if its a departure for another job or just a straight firing. Obviously any Hendry holdover is an easy guess, but you never know if someone like McLeod might leave for an opportunity elsewhere.

Theo. He's destroyed the team for the next several years so now he can go run the Cards and win now.

Bush would be a heckuva guess. It's the only one that makes sense.

If someone were trying to poach a McLeod or something with a promotion, we'd hear about it sooner, right?

I dont know. Maybe. But again, we plucked Theo with the biggest leak being purple shirt guy, right? Its possible some executive who knows him well would move swiftly if they felt he was the right guy. That being said I don't even know of any GM spots currently open, which is the position I would think it'd have to be for him to leave.

Bush isn't a bad guess, but I think Wilken leaving as a director of amateur draft for another team would be more likely. I don't feel like Bush would be in demand to leave for another job and if someone was just being fired it would have happened earlier.

Kyle I saw in another thread that this departure isn't voluntary. Can you link to where you saw this? If thats the case then I'll be shocked if it isn't Bush. Surprising he wouldn't have been let go sooner though (if that is indeed the case)

All the reports are in the comments section here:

http://www.bleachernation.com/2012/10/16/an-early-look-at-the-cubs-arbitration-situation-garza-samardzija-volstad-stewart-more/

And there are some rumors I’d be totally fine with reporting with this level of information. This one, though – because it involves someone leaving the organization (spoiler alert: not of his own volition) – I don’t think it’s worth risking being wrong. Who knows how it might affect someone? Not that I think I’m this huge bastion of information that changes the course of things … but you never know.

It's got to be Bush. We have two assistant to the GMs, one of whom is one of the rare remaining holdovers from the old FO and doesn't seem particularly friendly to their way of doing things, historically.

The moves this morning:

Paul Sullivan @PWSullivan

Cubs name David Bell 3B coach: Rowson stays as hitting coach. Randy Bush gets 3 year deal.

Alsoooooooooo

Doug Padilla @ESPNChiCubs

Head Trainer Mark O'Neal will step down from his post but stay with the organization.

Something to do with their desire to make injury prevention the wave of the future?

The Cubs also announced that they’d re-signed Randy Bush to a three-year extension, and he’ll stay on as one of two Assistant General Managers, together with Shiraz Rehman. Bush staying with the Cubs long term, after the turnover bug bit several other parts of the organization in the last year, is something of a surprise. But more minds in the front office – particularly a diverse set of minds – can’t be a bad thing, and the Cubs are lucky to retain him.

I'd like to hear Brett's justification for claiming the Cubs are lucky to keep Randy Bush.

What does he bring to the table?

Maybe they just want the conflicting point of view so it's not quite an echo chamber? I'm grasping...

Not trying to say everyone is wrong, but I don't recall ever reading/seeing anything to suggest Bush is actually bad at his job. Why all the hate for the guy?

I'm pretty sure it's just his association with Jim Hendry.

That's kinda what I've figured so far.

He was Jim Hendry's right hand man and there has never been any indication as to what he does well.

Did you ever read anything that said he was good at his job?
