The Giants need to win this World Series. This is the 1908 series matchup that should have been - Giants vs Tigers - and these two teams have not matched up since. So by winning, the Giants will finally release the soul of Fred Merkle from its torment of the Cubs.

I'm not sure how I feel about Bochy going with Bumgarner in Game 2 rather than Vogelsong.

 

Vogelsong would be going on three days rest, which he's never done before. But the Giants would then get Vogelsong in Games 2 and 6 and Cain in 3 and 7. Plus you don't pitch Bumgarner, who has basically made one good start in the last two months. Pitching Bumgarner means Vogelsong would be on short rest but he and Cain would only get to pitch three games in the series.

 

It seems like a decision which, if it works, Bochy looks like a genius, and if it doesn't, it could cost them the series.

And they remove him for a pinch hitter. I wonder if they'll bring him back in Game 4 since he only threw 98 pitches.
