I know people mock the "pixie dust" histrionics . . . but I'm going full meatball at this point. And you know what? It worked. I won three straight bets at the bar tonight. First, Cards would get at least two runners on. Double or nothing they'd tie the score. Double or nothing again that they'd win. And I never doubted any of the bets. It's amazing, their luck. Oh, and I was depressed/angered enough I ceased talking to the girl I was talking to.

The Cardinals are totally going to win the World Series again. With a crap team. Why the heck not?

Hey, at least you made money off of it. That's acceptable meatballism.

If the engines on the Cardinals plane went out on their way to San Francisco for the ALCS one of their [expletive] payers would probably hop out onto the wings and manually restart the engines and safe the [expletive] day. I [expletive] hate them.

LOL'ed at this.

And I brainfarted like a mofo... "safe the day"? ALCS?!?!?!?! I'm not good at doing simple things when I'm furious

I mean they do pay for the luck though.

Ha, thanks. I'm not one to enjoy meatballism. But at this point it's becoming hard not to meatball.

I personally blame all the people who thought the 2nd wild card was a good idea

If there wasn't a second wild card, they would have played out of their minds in September while the Braves tanked (see 2011).

A rational fan from another fan base would say "Don't be ridiculous". But I believe that it would indeed go down like that with every fiber of my being.

I think i've watched my last baseball for the year. screw this.

I'll probably still end up watching the LCS, but if we get a Yankees-Cards World Series, I'm out.

A little late with my two cents, but that was some played out, new jack horse crap.

Descalso? Kozma? Where the [expletive] was Davey Johnson while Storen was melting down?

Eh, whatever. I can't even muster any outrage over it anymore. Frankly, the Reds were the team I wanted out the most, and there's still the Giants to get through.

Seriously though, how do the Cards do this? How much is luck vs. developement? You see the Rays, Brewers, and Reds bring up players from within in bunches over the past few years, but they're primarily top prospects, many were high draft picks. The Cardinals pull these guys out of nowhere. I'm not even talking about Kozma and Descalso who happened to come up with some big hits. I'm talking Craig, Jay, Carpenter. David Freese, for example may have been a PTBNL for the remains of Jim Edmonds, but it's obvious that they say him as a guy they could really develope.Perhaps if we're looking to pillage other teams FOs, here's where we should be looking at the Cardinals scouting department and player developement..

I'm glad to see everybody on here has been contemplating the same seemingly irrational thoughts that I have all night. The whole Cardinals team dying, higher beings getting involved, some sort of satanic involvement. Makes me feel completely normal again. Was starting to get worried. On a side note, I do love how many fans of other teams are acknowledging hatred towards these ridiculous circumstances. I'm sure at this point the fan bases that have new hate towards St Louis are: ATL, MIL, TEX, CIN, PIT, LA, ATL, ATL, WAS. Soon you can add SF and DET to the list too. I'm expecting when they ever do get eliminated (2018?) the number of fans showing outward jubilation will be extremely high.

Yeah, it's so much worse living amongst so many ass-clown fans who have no clue how truly ridiculous their luck has been since 2006.

We could have had an LCS with the following WS/LCS appearance droughts:

CIN (90/90)

WAS (Infinite/Infinite)

BAL (83/83)

OAK (90/91)

I have never seen any of these teams in an LCS as I was 3 when the A's last made one in '91.

Instead we get the following WS/LCS droughts:

STL (11/11)

NYY (09/09)

DET (06/11)

SF (10/10)

That's why they are the best fans in baseball. Just ask them, they'll tell you.

Coming out of school I had a job offer in St Louis and an offer in KC. I grew up 1.5 hours from St Louis and about 5.5 hours from KC. I had no friends, family, anybody in KC. My wife is from the same town as me. She has no ties to KC. We both have many ties to St Louis. When we sat down to decide what we were going to do I told her, "I love baseball. It is a huge part of my life. I can be happy day-to-day if the Cubs are losing. I cannot be happy day-to-day I they are losing and we live in St Louis." I truelly believe the Cardinals were the deciding factor in the job I chose. My company has an office in St Louis and they have asked me if I would rather live there. I told them I would rather find another job. Of course we are home this weekend and the douchebags around here are insufferable.

I hear you, even here in KC I'm surrounded by cardinal fans. Most KU fans who don't like the Royals because they don't win enough. Sounds like the best fans in the word to me, not just baseball.

I'm from SE MO. There are just many Cardinals/Kansas and Cardinals/Kentucky fans here as there are Cardinals/Mizzou. It's disgusting. Also, very few people claim the Rams. There are tons of Packers, Bears, Cowboys fans down here. I'm convinced if the Browns stayed and the Cardinals left that half of the people down here would be Yankees fans.

to recap the last calendar year plus for the cardinals:

-get into playoffs after braves suffer one of the greatest collapses in history.

-beat heavily favored phillies, whose bats completely fall asleep.

-win world series over favored rangers after rangers blow a pair of two-run leads in game six. top performers include people named allen craig and david freese.

-make the playoffs in 2012 as a team that wouldn't have made the playoffs in any other year since major league baseball began.

-win "play-in" game after a disputed call and horrendous defense by the opposing team.

-win game five of NLDS after very good opposing starter struggles to hold lead, very good opposing bullpen melts down, and people named daniel descalso and peter kozma overcome a two-run deficit in the ninth inning.

You forgot the part in between where they were granted an extra draft pick because they need it for competitive balance.
