I just don't get it. The guy has been an NFL coach for how long now? If he can't do simple math in his head, then he should have a coach on the sideline to advise him. His decision essentially bypassed 8 1/2 yards on a first down play... terrible.

I can understand taking a 1st and 5 instead of 2nd and 1 I guess, but if you are choosing to lose 9 yards for an extra down, you are saying that you think your team is going to get 9+ yards on the next play. Considering no NFL teams average 9 yards a play, its the wrong decision.

 

 

Edit: And I didnt even consider the fact that the Bears were in long FG range, so Lovie erased 9 yards that if anything makes the kick more difficult if the Bears can't move the ball.
