I think the Bears are owed a lot of TOs from the last couple of years if the rule is that you don't get charged a TO with the clock stopped. All those plays where Cutler called a TO with the play clock running down. we got screwed!!

Games are taking forever today. Don't know if it's the refs fault but it's obvious.

The Bears game went longer than almost every other noon game and the 3:15 games are now 3:25 games. 6:50 isn't that late for the slate to end.

The refs had the timeout stuff right, didn't they? The crowd/scoreboard/TV thought they lost a timeout for an injury, but since it was an incomplete pass they kept it. Unless the refs told everyone that Seattle lost a charged time out on that play, it's hard to blame them for stuff out of their control.

Pereira said they were dead wrong. I'm taking his word for it.

I have an irrational hate of Broncos fans. One of the only things that can make me root for the Steelers.

And this NBC intro with what's-her-name is so freaking cheesy.

About them not losing a timeout for the injury?

I think the replacement ref thing is getting a tad bit overblown. They haven't been that terrible--and they seem to be a lot better than when they first started. I think everyone was expecting a lot worse. And it isn't like the old refs were that great. There was always plenty of bitching about refs in game threads for either bears or packers games in the past. I mean there were many times in the past that a team would challenge a play, the announcers, everyone at home, and head of officiating would clearly see it one way, and the ref on the field would still make a terrible call. I can't stand bad officiating, but the bad calls haven't been that egregious. To me it almost seems like they let a little more go than the refs have in the past few years. I would rather error on the side of "letting them play" than constantly making ticky-tack calls.

I say this and I will probably be pissed about something in the Bears-packers game this week.

Right. Peter King on NBC said the same thing, after conceding that up to that point the refs had done pretty well today.

Yeah, the timeout thing sounds pretty outrageous, but this is a lot closer to proving to me that these guys would be ok given some experience than that we desperately need the ump's union back.

I would never use Peter King saying anything as a way to support anything unless it's that whatever he said is wrong.

I know he's a jerkoff. But short of reading the damn rule book myself I expect those dudes are right.

Had no idea Butthead's kid was in the league.

No. Peter King is not very bright and I would never assume he's right about anything.

Why on earth would he concede that? I agree you could probably take a few weeks and get these guys (and gal, as it were) up to speed, but today I saw blown calls that I've never seen from an NFL crew before. It was absolutely terrible. Sure, nobody "got hurt" and I'm sure that's the weird standard people want to apply, but it shouldn't be. When incredibly blatant false starts aren't noticed, it's obvious the officiating isn't up to par and needs to be addressed (and that's just an example). And I for one don't want to wait until week 8 for it to get better.
